Not my best photo moment, but then the adrenalin charge was urging me to flee. We were playing Virginia course at Mallory when this Gator swam toward out tee box. While the ladies tee'd off I observed Mr Gator climbing up to our tee. While we scrambled to our carts I got this shot. He ambled across the tee area and laid in the shade.

You are braver than I. If I see a gator pointed in my direction I'm out of there.

Try playing golf at Hilton Head Island. There is an adrenalin rush on many holes. Right on the fairway. Whoa nelly!

dbussone: I did hear that those South Carolina gators are not as well behaved as they are in Florida:D

Dbussone we DID try golf at HH and it was my first run in with a gator. What I mistook in my city mind for a log, was clearly NOT! A gator was sunning himself on the fairway just as you said

True. Our gators tend to keep to themselves. I think the gators in SC are too used to meals of mediocre golfers and are always looking for another. I won't play in SC for that very reason ::jester::

Fripp island we enjoyed? The pleasure of a gator sunning himself on the tee and he was a 15 footer that we allowed to play thru! Ha!

The biggest gator I've ever seen not in captivity was on #9 at Virginia. Where your encounter was by the tee, this gator was in the long narrow strip of water to the left of the 9th fairway. There was a drainage pipe sticking out into the water up near the green and he was laying in the sun right on top of that pipe. He was in plain view from head to tail which probably helped make him look bigger, he had to be 10' to 12'. That was about 3 years ago, it could be the same guy you saw, but I didn't get a photo.

Good move.

I think that's absolutely amazing. My full respect to the big boy. :BigApplause: I just can't take the snakes.

Snakes are seldom involved in golf, and they never have honors.
