The lake on Pimlico GC between #6 & #7 is empty again. Drove by today, visible from the road, several construction type trucks parked near it.
That's 2 GC lakes dry now...Pimlico and Alamanda.

I'm thinking that maybe our below average precipitation (at least it seems to be below average) this year has lowered the water table, making these things more likely.
Only time will tell I guess.

The online news says it's was caused by a sink hole.

There also seems to be quite a few comments on how to repair the sink hole, keep the pond, or just fill in, and how to pay for it. From my understanding, CCD5 will be footing the bill. The question is which option is the most economical?

The folks in charge and who know a lot about these kinds of things have done well in the past in deciding. I am guessing there is money already allotted for such a thing as they don't seem to live hand to mouth in their budgeting here.
We pay in and money is held for such emergencies. I trust the way things are run, especially before things are turned over to elected neighbors.

If it is filled in, how would you like to be the people that paid a premium for a water view and now be required, by living in CDD 5, to pay to fill it in? Yikes!!!!

I agree with both of you. The people still have a "golf course view..."

I believe the premium is for a golf course view; and any water view (on a retention pond) is never guaranteed.
The residents backing on the retention pond may be upset, but I believe the deed is worded that way.

Probably so, but I bet there will still be a lot of flak raised by the homeowners.

Of course the sink hole will be fixed. This is The Villages. What do you think they will do, call it a crater?

In the beginning it used to state that you had a water view. Now when you buy a house it states that it may or may not contain water. So if you buy A house with a water view it may or may not somewhere down the road contain water . So far ponds have been restored with water when this issue has come up I could be wrong but I don't believe any areas have been filled in with dirt instead of water.

There is not a question of "if" but "how" the sink hole will be repaired. Will become a golf ball eating pond again, or a grassy area?

Maybe third time is "charm". I don't have a dog in this fight but if I did I would vote to fix it one more time.

Your ball won't drown, but you may be overwhelmed by the smell of dead fish. :yuck:
The last time a sink hole emptied the retention pond on Pimlico, the Pelicans had a feast!

My understanding is that both lakes/ponds were repaired as of Tuesday morning. They will be filled by rainwater whenever that happens.

Doesn't Mother Nature determine the "right"?

I understand this is the 3rd time it has happened at Pimlico.
Maybe they will decide to fill it all in and build some new homes in there!:spoken:

I heard that they're saving that spot for the final 'build out.' :p
