Any body you would encourage us to use for pick-up and take us to MCO, and pick us up upon our return, other than the shuttle

On www.virginiatrace.com under good services there are 3 or 4 names for airport transport. I used Jum once and he was great.

Would rather you give him a call and talk about that. But he is very fair.

Our recent flight here to TV we, for the first time, flew into Tampa rather than Orlando (for six years). We were very pleased with landing in Tampa and found it much easier to drive to TV from Tampa (no tolls) than Orlando (a few tolls).
The airports are about the same distance and time to the TV, so I'm told, and route I75 was an easier road to travel, as well.
We also found that there's less children flying into Tampa vs Orlando which is also a plus. Especially if you get a youngster sitting behind you that constantly kicks your seat!
What say TOTV'ers? What's your choice of airport?

Hey Barb,
Glad to see I'm not the only person who feels coming to TV from Tampa is far easier and cheaper than from Orlando. Just another example of how a pure myth becomes what people accept as fact.

We pick and choose between the two airports. We did find that in Tampa--if you stay overnight at the Bay Harbour Hotel they will give you free transportation to and from airport and will let you leave your car free of charge ( we left ours for two weeks ). It's a decent hotel and if you were there in the daytime your view of harbour would be very nice. Also--an easy ten minutes to airport.

It seems that you added a sentence within my quote. How did that happen? I didn't write your insert, namely....
"Takes us maybe 20-30 minutes longer to get to Tampa ( would be less if you live on "Tampa side" of The Villages ).--but there isn't any toll."

Great to know that Tampa is easier. We've always just flown in and out of Orlando. And thanks for the hotel tip. :coolsmiley:

The Florida Jitney seems to be unavailable these days .. does anyone know the situation there?
We used Mike Richter's transportation company on Sunday for an airport pick-up. 352-753-5000. No problems.

Bare -
I just received this email today concerning Jitney from a neighbor who is due to arrive here Friday and leave next Wednesday:
"a call came in while on the phone with a customer. The call was from the Jitney cancelling my airport pickup on Friday and
suggesting that I call the Village Shuttle, they even provided the number saying that they had a pickup that would fit my arrival.
They explained it was due to a medical emergency that shuttle service is discontinued for a couple of days. They said they would
refund the pickup portion of the trip, did not mention about next Wednesday’s pickup for the airport."

Florida Jitney also cancelled Sunday night pick-ups (last weekend) at Orlando airport. Something strange going on there I think.

Island Gal, please keep us posted! We used the Florida Jitney a lot. And I have a lot of company coming in the next couple of months. Hope they're still in service.

Check Gainesville, also - it is a regional airport, but Delta and U S Airways both fly out of there. It is not always the best choice, but it is closer to drive to (and also with no tolls to pay as the trip to Orlando has) than either Tampa or Orlando, and is small and uncomplicated (only one gate! And you just park in front and take your luggage in - daily parking rate is also less than Tampa and Orlando). About 1 hour and five minute drive from The Ville.

Just received this email from a friend who had reservations tomorrow on Jitney:
"I called the Jitney earlier today, they didn't return my phone call so I called the reservation line this afternoon. There is a recording -
about a medical emergency of the "owner" and that after much discussion they decided to suspend transportation for a while
and will refund all moneys for canceled trips.
Also, 1 free ride will be provided after they return to furnishing shuttle services."

Thanks for the update IG. I suspected that the Florida Jitney had stopped their service. Darn!!! It was great while it lasted, it was so convenient. I wish the Villages Shuttle would run a bit later at night.
Options are limited for people who can't drive. Limousine service is an expensive option .. even through gas prices have decreased, the cost of limo service seems to be the same. $85.00 for a one person pick up plus tip.
Anyone know of any less expensive options for people who don't drive?

Just noticed today in the online Sun that the Villages shuttle has been reduced to $35 per person. They have also expanded the hours. Probably a better deal for a single now. I still don't think it works for those early flights.

It's refreshing to see the reduction in price when gas prices go down, ie The Village Shuttle. Now I wonder if the car services will do likewise? Eighty-five dollars plus tip seems expensive with the current economic conditions.

NO - The Villages Airport Transportation service is wonderful and reasonably priced $35/each way. Their number: 241-2000. Other services make you pick up your luggage and put it in the vehicle. That's how I got a shoulder injury 5 years ago - never again!!
Hope this helps - Mallory Voice
