Kathy and I will be moving to TV sometime in the future. We have vacationed at TV 3 times in the past 2 years. Love it! We feel so special there, the people are so friendly, the many golf courses, golf cart community, neighborhood get-togethers, etc.

Since we haven't lived there full time, or experienced all 4 seasons lifestyle there, we're unsure about how to plan our car/golf cart situation.

We would appreciate good advice here. If you're a couple, want to get around easily in all 4 seasons, and both enjoy golf, please give us feedback to these scenarious:

1) 2 cars and 1 golf cart
2) 1 car and 2 golf carts
3) 1 car and 1 golf cart

We especially like the villages near Lake Smp. Square.

Thanks in advance for your input! :clap2:

The answer is equally easy.

What'll fit in the garage?

Don't forget all the other "stuff" you may want to store out there as well as vehicles.

When we moved to TV we had two cars and no golf cart. We purchased 1 electric golf cart one month after arriving and getting settled. Our intention was to use it for golf. Our home has a two car and a golf cart garage. We soon realized that we really needed an additional golf cart because she plays golf with her friends and and I play with mine so it was more convenient to have two. We sold our second car and now have one car and electric two carts.

We have found that we use our carts much more than our car. In fact, I would estimate that in 2008 we put less than 500 miles a month on our car. We use the carts for most of our errands, transportation around TV, events and golf etc.

I find 1 car two carts works best for us. Plus it gives us extra space in the Garage. I am thinking of purchasing a scooter but my wife is trying to dissuade me.

We rent our Courtyard villa out as much as we can until we retire, but did purchase an electric golf cart about a year and a half ago - found it attracts longer term renters and is also lots of fun to use when we are there - we plan to sell our 2nd car when we retire, park our small Honda Fit in the garage and buy a 2nd golf cart - probably a gas one so we'll have one of each.

Looks to me like we could remove the post in front of the furnace and be able to fit the gas cart all the way at the back of the garage in front of the electric cart. We have the Bonita/Foxglove model. Has anyone tried this? I forgot to measure on our last trip but we have talked about it.

Am assuming we could put something on the floor to keep us from plowing into the furnace and also at the back of the garage.

We're not down there full time yet (retirement coming very, very, very soon - I'm counting weeks at this point), but all of my experience in TV says I rarely need a car. For the time being, one cart has sufficed, but as we aren't there all the time, we aren't involved in a lot of activities yet. So we are together most of the time in the cart. But I can easily see needing two carts so we can do our own thing.
So count us in as a 1 car, 2 cart family.

We have the Gardenia (no golf cart garage) and in the garage we have two cars, one golf cart, a Harley Davison -Dyna Wide Glide and a bike. It is tight. My husband would like us to get rid of one car and get a second golf cart, but I am not ready to get rid of a car; maybe in a few years.

We have one SUV, one golf cart, one motorcycle and two bicycles. And a crowded garage.

We use our SUV every day as we go to the dog park which can't be accessed by golf cart.

We have two cars, two carts (1 2-seater and 1 4-seater), and two bikes. The cars are used every day (my husband stills works) and we use the 2-seater all the time. The 4-seater only when we have company. I think we've used the bikes twice in the 5 years we've been here. Anybody wanna buy some bikes?

We are snowbirds but if we lived all year here it would d be 2 carts and 1 car. Even being snow birds we wish we had 2 carts as we go seperate directions frequently in TV. When we use the car we are mostly going outside TV together.

guess it's your personal preference. some folks enjoy two golf carts. he takes one, she takes one. for us, he takes golf cart, i take car. and what will fit in your garage comfortably? whatever you get, get at least one golf cart!! that's the fun of living here. i know some folks who don't own a golf cart and i think wow they are missing so much fun!! Good luck with your decision.

We Have 2 golf carts and 2 cars. My wife works so she needs a car to get to work. We live in a foxglove Villa. I put 2 carts and a sebring convertible in the garage (crowded) and the Suv in the drive.

We use the golf carts only for guests as the wife and I seldom use the carts without each other. We feel that when we have guests that they experience The Villages better with a second golf cart. This also lets us enjoy showing our guests around. Let face it that is part of the fun of this place.

Also when our children visit it works out best with 2 carts and at times we have needed 3. Since we have 2 carts we have loaned 1 to friends so when we have needed a third cart they have been happy to loan us theirs. Also when snowbirds go North they have let us store 1 cart in return for a loaner. Works out great.

When many of our guests come down they want to play golf 1 cart would be a problem when you have more than 2 golfers.

2 golf carts and one car have worked really well for us (we have a Grdenia with an extra 4' garage extension) so there is a lot of room left for storage cabinets, bikes, etc. We live in Hadley, and never use our car unless we need to go north of 466.

Depends on your lifestyle. Move here, get involved in whatever you like, take your time and see what best fits your needs. Don't have to rush into anything---your retired now and not on a schedule. (Yesterday I did nothing but enjoy life. Since I didn't get finished, I continued enjoying life today.)

mrhentzel's comments seems like very good advice. We are relatively new to The Villages. We rented a place last Feb, fell under the spell, arranged to build a home in March, closed in June and started our first snowbird season in Nov. We originally thought we would purchase a golf cart within a week or two, but here we are two months later and no golf cart. There are golf carts everywhere and everyone seems to use them, but I am beginning to wonder about their utility. They are fun and we used one when we rented in Feb, but by the end the month, we were not using the golf cart very much.

We have two cars and a golf cart garage that is filled with a workshop and bicycles. We use our bikes for travel to/from activities and short hops to the stores. Bicycle travel is every bit as rapid as a golf cart and a lot better exercise. A bike ride to Fruitland Park or Wildwood or ??? is a pleasant ride and not possible with a golf cart. I much prefer walking when playing golf. And anything else seems to warrant a car. I am beginning to wonder what I would do with a golf cart. I suspect that we will eventually purchase a golf cart, but I am leaning towards a motorcycle as the next piece of transportation.

We are a real rarity in that we gave up a car TOTALLY! Have one golf cart right now, will eventually get another one. when we want to go somewhere off campus, we rent a car from Enterprise, usually getting a great weekend rate. This past weekened we had to go to Vero Beach, and go a KIA from Enterprise for 12 dollars a day!!! I know some people could not survive without a car, but in our case, it has worked out great.

We don't have a car either just one golf cart and do the same RCT. Actually there is very little you can't do around here, without a car

When our oil tank was removed from underground and installed inside the garage up here in CT, the installer drilled into the floor and added two thick (about 4" diameter) metal poles about 5 feet apart in front of the oil tank. That keeps us from doing damage by hitting the oil tank when we drive into the darkened garage.

We have one car (large) , two golf carts ,one bicycle and a honda motor scooter ......We have plenty of room but one of the golf carts just sits...

trying to decide if I should sell it or not ???????

My POINT IS , I'm not sure that you really need two golfs carts..You might want to try just one at first and see how it go's.....
