Plus duck feathers floating on the top of the water. So Gross....plus they can carry e coli etc. Who do we call? ....who wants to swim in a pool with all those germs. Thank you!

I have often seen ducks in the Liberty Park pool as well...I'm sure they like having their own personal little ponds....me, I'm not so sure I want to be sharing with them.

Anyone check their I.D.s:evil6:
Call Rec. or go to closest Rec. Center and tell them.
You could call Community Watch from the pool area. Number is on the phones at all pools....better than someone getting sick. :yuck:

Looks like it is dangerous for the ducks too.

Your post sounds like you feel no one gives a damn. It's hard to fix something that no one is aware of. No one wants to swim in a pool in that condition. You are aware of Community Watch right?

Has anyone ever noticed on ocation that some people are in a pool for hours don't use the rest room I wouldn't worry about a few ducks

Wow....not at all trying to convey that. However when we arrived first thing to the pool this morning the lady that opened the gate saw the ducks in the pool. She did nothing because they flew out within 5 minutes while she was still there. She made no effort to look in the pool or check or see the feces right there at the edge. The poop may be harder to see in the pool but there were several spots and at least 3 floating feathers. We are new here and the lady left we have no idea if it's part of her job. That is why I posted here did not know how common this was if the chlorine or chemicals covered for that etc etc. We went to the phone and it looked more like a 911 phone. Plus it's Sunday are the office I would assume would be close. That is why I asked here so I could report it.

In the past two weeks we have never seen anyone in the pool more than an hour which is how long we stay in. Feces carries way more germs than urine. I have seen each time Many people use the restrooms I am happy to say!

That's what I always think about. When I managed an RV resort, a group of folks would spend 3 to 4 hours in the pool....never getting out. Ewwww......pee water for sure.

They don't need to use the rest room---they are wearing their adult diapers.

Were the ducks male or female or ..........were they geese? As a kid we would swim in a lake. Heaven knows what the fish were doing in that water.

Wouldn't that be a transpecies bathroom, Gerryann?

Or multispecies. Can't leave out the lizards, worms, snakes and quite possibly a gator. ......
If it's trans....then we're assuming they are turning into something else.
If you get in the pool with just trunks....you best stay male till you get out. Don't want any exposures in the villages pools.

The ducks have figured out there nothing in the water? Majority of pools are closed at sunset and well lite up. Prefect for late duck roosting ( lite up like Orlando runway) with no one to bother them till after sun up they can party all night. As suggested how do you stop them? When we rented this was problem at pool there also.

Donna & Stan, typical post. You have a legitimate concern and all you get is humorous comments (or so they think). The chlorine in the pool should take care of any waste a couple of ducks could deposit. The waste on the deck is another problem. Call the Villages main line and they will put you in charge with the rec. department that is in charge of your pool. I had this problem back home with ducks and the only solution I found was rubber snakes, they are very afraid of snakes. We even put a floating cable in the pool and they thought it was a snake, and wouldn't land in the water. Just wonder... who is counting the hours people are in the pool?? Shame on you for thinking it could only be the people that stay in the water hours that may have an accident.

Don't forget what numerous other animals or reptiles may be partying in the pool after hours. :)

I'm with you. When there are employees present, looking right at an obvious problem, and they do nothing to indicate they even SEE a problem, they're either complicit, oblivious, lazy, apathetic, or all of the above.
Residents-pool users or villagers using any facility here should not have to tell people to do their job to correct something they're looking right at, and then reprimand/report them if they do not respond. Even if there is no problem, you can't have residents telling people to do their job and how.
Call the Rec Dept. and report this. We shouldn't have to tell anyone that manure needs to be cleaned up. It's so basic that it casts doubt on how much effort they'd exert on much bigger problems. Plus, the way things go here, some villagers will decide that since ducks swim and poop in the pool, their dog has the right to do the same. You don't think so? Just wait.......

Ducks have been a constant problem at some public pools.
I've seen them many times at pools since we purchased in 2007.
I've seen two solutions tried:
wire strung over the pool, and plastic owls (their locations are changed regularly to fool the ducks).
The ducks just laugh and swim.
Nothing seems to deter the ducks. If you chase them away, they will return.
Some problems don't have a solution.
Perhaps that is one reason a lot of people have private pools.

Since you are new, you may not know this forum is not connected to The Villages in any official capacity. It is privately owned. Also, since you are new, you may not know that the person who opened the pool may have reported it. The person who opened the pool and the person who cleans the pool are two different people. The person who opened the pool is a villager, a neighbor, and those folks working at rec centers are usually very helpful and nice. I doubt very much if she would have ignored it, if she had seen it.
If you are wondering who to call, call the sales office number. Many times over the years I have called the person on duty and she/he always directed me to the right person who knows how to handle almost any situation. The people who answer the phones are very well trained. Unless you see a person who may be up to something, or looks suspiciously out of place, than do the "see something, say something" and call the sheriff's number.

After leaving TV last January we stayed at a condo in Islamorada. They used plastic fish line over the pool to keep out the birds. Did it work? ASK THE BIRDS!

:( .....if it was just fishing line, that sounds a little mean, assuming the ducks wouldn't be able to see it very well till they tried to land on it. I would hate to see that here.

Another place to call (and may be better) is the District Customer Service Center. They are there just for that purpose of helping residents.

And as is with other open areas in th Villages, we are over building their habitat (see previous thread: Gators eat ducks). Ducks also float in open water areas and, much to our disappointment, and given the amount of time and money spent to try to train them where to poop, they continue to let us down. Maybe just a stern Shooo would have fixed the issue, something to try next time, maybe.

You are right. I was speaking more to the "insulting" pat answer righteously proclaimed here and in restaurant threads, which shoots at the messenger: "And what did the manager say?".
When employees look right at a problem they do not acknowledge, it looks like approval.

The ducks are clever! They know exactly where the wires are and how to avoid them.

Now let's think about this for a minute. I don't see it as insulting to say, "What did the manager say?" Some folks come on this forum to vent, they feel self righteous and usually wronged, or cheated, and maybe they are. But the person in charge is the only one that can right the wrong, correct the injustice, or in this case, order the clean up of the poop.
When I have been let into the pool in the morning, the person usually walked out from the front desk and unlocked the lock and opened the gate and then went right back in.
The only person that can solve this problem is the person who can tell the poop scooper to clean the poop out of the pool and shock it. The ducks were the wrong doer's, not the not very well paid person who works at the rec center.

I remember as a child and young adult swimming in the lake and never thinking twice about what was in it, pooping in it and what was slithering, around it. Up north our lake is just around the corner from us with a nice sandy beach and the geese and swans are great to look at but I know longer swim in it. I understand the concern about the ducks, but sadly we are taking away their own habitat. Someone forgot to tell them to pack up and move.

If a pool maintains the proper chlorine level then there are no health issues with using the pool. You do want to get rid of the droppings but technically, they won't cause health problems. I agree that there shouldn't be ducks using a pool but as long as it is a temporary issue it shouldn't be a major concern. Just chase them off and enjoy the pool.

Birds around in pools are a common thing. Lots of chlorine and good maintenance of decks usually solves most of the problems. As long as it's not a snake or gator in there (and I always check bottom upon arrival) I'm good.
