Those of us in the Southern Trace, Lake Sumter Landing area did not mind too much in travelling to Amigos. Because if the dollar margaritas and the acceptable quesadillas it was a fun place to go. It had gained popularity and was crowded most nights and lunchtime too. Now that it is closed, all of our friends were saying that it would be great to have a Mexican restaurant in the Southern Trace, Buffalo Ridge area. Anyone know if a local or a chain they would like to see move in to TV ?? Would you like to see Amigos relocate?

If we're heading to Ocala, we usually eat at El Toreo (right off the interstate), but if we're going to Leesburg, you'll find us at Habanero's. We eat at one or the other at least once a week. We've talked to both about coming to TV, and both say they'd like to, but that's about the end of it.
We, too, thought Amigo's was okay, but the last time we went, the hostess had to fix our food ~ the cook had decided to leave for the day. That was our first clue the place was in trouble.

We love El Toreo and whenever we are in Ocala near the mall we go there to eat. Everything we ever ordered has been excellent.
I too was disappointed in Amigos in Spanish Springs. I liked an appetizer they had that came with guacamole. The last time I ordered it they gave me ranch dressing instead of the guacamole. The waitress said they ran out!
Out of guacamole in a Mexican restaurant !?!?!?

El Ranchito near TV post office, never heard any bad reports about this restaurant. Always enjoy their food and prices.

We like El Ranchito. The food is always good. The service is good as well.
One word of caution. If there is live music there that night......steer clear. Somehow, they find the worst singers in Florida to perform there. I know they can't pay much, but nothing is better than what we have heard.
One night, when there was a live band, the hostess, said, "I think you will be happier if I put you on the other side of the restaurant where you can't hear the music." That side was packed, the music side was empty (almost).

Isn't there a Taco Bell in the Southern Trace plaza?

El Ranchito is terrible. Every thing is covered with sour cream and is bland, bland, bland. El Toreo is a safe choice and I'll have to try Habaneros.

I laughed at the response from the person who did not like El Ranchitos and then the person who suggested Taco Bell.
Having eatien in the best and the worse from San Diego, New Mexico, San Antonio and my wife's family I can tell you El Ranchitos is the best you are going to get around here for well over 50 miles.
If you do not like the sauce ask then to not put it on, as for bland, no true Mexican food is overly spicey and hardly ever hot the seasoning is on the table and if that is not hot enough do as I do carry your own

I can't help being critical of El Ranchito. I'm from Houston and we had the Best Mexican food ever (well the best west of San Antonio). I love TV but I sure miss the black angus beef in Texas and the wonderful resturants. And yes, I carry my own sauce.

We ate at el Korita today. WOW! It was wonderful. Best guacamole I've ever had. They actually make it when you order.
Thanks for the recommendation. We'll be back....

I usually try to find something positive to say about my restaurant experiences. However, I'm having a very hard time doing that with El Ranchito. I went there for lunch on Wed. and was seriously disappointed. The service was very bad, the food barely edible (not what I ordered either) and the place was dirty. Remember the old restaurant adage: If you want to know what the kitchen is like, check out the restroom.
We really need a good Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant here. It doesn't have to strive for a Michelin star just the basics: clean, good service, good food, good drinks and good fun where friends can gather. That's not too much to ask for a New Year gift.

Thanks Nonie and Cinco. We tried el Korita today for Mexican and it was great. Everything was so fresh. We will return. After lunch we went to downtown Eustis. Nice section by the lake and some cute shops and restaurants. It was like a smaller Mount Dora.
