For the past several days my husband has been receiving phone calls(on his cell) from area code 202-754-8179. He has not answered, thinking it was a political call. Today he received three more calls from the same number, which finally left a voice mail. It stated that a Law suit had been filed against him, and to call back immediately it went on to say how important it was to call back etc, etc. I got on the internet to trace the call. And in huge red letters stated SCAM FRAUD do not call. Just a heads up if anyone else who maybe receiving the same calls. Hope to save anyone from being Hacked or scammed.

I have done that by posting the tele number in any internet search engine; thus, being able to read a variety of articles re the number.

Two phone calls with complete official sounding messages from the phony IRS today already. Absolutely amazing how clever these bastards are. It was from a 605 area code in South Dakota. These call virtually stopped for months and are heating up now. To bad nobody respects the Do No Call Policy.

Nucky - call them back and tell them you are from the FBI and want to meet them to take their deposition regarding a reported IRS scam. Then ask them when the IRS moved to India. I doubt they will still be on the line after they hear FBI. Most calls are coming from overseas call centers and use spoofed phone numbers. It's also fun to blow a very loud whistle into the phone after the call is answered. I can offer many more suggestions - such fun on a rainy afternoon.

Yesterday and today my caller ID listed my name and phone number . Didn't answer like how could I be calling my number. I always rely on the white pages and do a reverse look up. When you get scam alerts you can also give them your two cents about this call.

Block the number - we have Apple 6 phones and i hate to think how many #'s we have blocked.. someone somehow got our #'s and we were bombarded with calls for a few wks.. area codes from all over the country. . finally they stopped.. we must have blocked enough of them that they gave up ... just a reminder ... NEVER call a number back you don't recognize .. that will only give the caller proof it is a good number and your # will be on numerous lists ...

I disagree. I wouldn't miss the fun. I know if the person calling is someone I know or not. I always let an unknown call go to voicemail. If it's a scam, you can easily tell - then block it. But you can still call the number that called you.

I seldom have to put up with any continuing calls because they fear the pretend authority call the pretend IRS back.

And by the way, they know if they have reached a valid number or not. That gives them the proof they have reached a good number when they don't get a phone company message. If it rings more than several times or goes to VM they know your number is good.

Not so fast, these phone calls (and e-mails) can be very beneficial.

For instance, as soon as my huge Nigerian inheritance gets here I'll be buying out The Villages developer.

A guy I know who is a tech nut has on his phone something that if the phone doesn't recognize the number it will give a fax tone that most robo callers once hearing will delete that number from their list.

The U.S. Treasury would really like to catch these folks and put them out of business. If you received scam IRS or US Treasury Department phone calls, please report them to the Treasury Department's Inspector General for Tax Authority Office at the following: U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) (http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/). When that screen opens, there wil be a button/link on the right side of your screen labeled "IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting". Click on that link and fill out the form they provide. Unless we help, we can never stop these folks so please report your IRS Tax Scam phone calls to the US Treasury Department.

Yea, I was just going to say how the "Do NOT Call Policy" is a scam in itself, only they're not asking for money. Maybe they're the ones passing our phone # around, LOL.

JAGGY, you're exactly right, never answer a call or call any # back you don't recognize. I did a while back before I wised up & ask my virus protector subscriber, Kaspersky & they said don't ever answer or call them back, because once you do they'll know that your # has a real person attached to the other end. Good comment, JAGGY!

As I understand it, just not answering won't help.

Once it goes to voice mail, they now have confirmation that it is a valid number.

Sometimes if you answer and wait long enough to their spiel, they will give you an option to 'opt out.'

My guess though, is even if you do that they sell your number to another scammer.

Oh the hassle of living in the 21st Century. :p

I have a new Hillary for President pen that has a button that you press that spouts the famous Hillary Laugh. After hearing this Indian accent telling me I had a problem, I pressed the button. I got a response " This is no laughing matter ." Made my day.
