View Full Version : City Furniture Day 1

Received a large purchase of furniture from City Furniture today. Seven of the eight pieces had to be returned.
Not only did I pay additional charges for full inspection of all pieces before leaving the warehouse in Southern Florida but some of the pieces were actually damaged and painted over and without a doubt sent to me hoping that I would not notice this. I also purchased a four-hour decorator package. The quality of the measurements and Eye Of The Decorator are also questionable. For the last 2 hours City Furniture stores in Spanish Springs and Sumter Landing have had their phones ringing busy. The store general manager is not available. Even The Decorator could not reach the store manager.
Waiting to hear what will happen in the future. Definitely would take the furniture if it was not defective because it fit well and looks nicely in the store. However my decorator has some read measuring to do, and the store needs to make some type of amends for all of the trouble I have been through, not to mention the embarrassment that I feel not having to be able to tip the delivery men because a second shipment would require more tipping. I apologized to them for this at which point they became snippy.
I can't even go to another store and replace my furniture, in my empty home, because I have come very close to my credit card limit and City Furniture has already charged me for furniture that they did not come through on
Stay tuned!

Watch how many people brag about the quality experience they had with CF. I would never, ever shop there.

Definitely. That is the best idea.

Both of you should do a search of "City Furniture" on this site.
There are plenty of complaints posted.

If nothing else comes of this sad situation, at a minimum, I hope people at least take your advice and search here to find out what you are getting into.

No excuse for buying anything from any business without doing your homework, lots of info online
The 2 businesses to really avoid in The Villages in my honest opinion are City Furniture and Tire Choice, use them @ your own financial risk and in the case of Tire Choice your safety.

Tire choice: new set of tires exact as on the car= $1,347.
Wildwood tire: ". " ". ". " = $684.

everything i saw at city furniture was manufacture wood and junk also the staff was less then helpful and rude!
If you like furniture made of real wood by real craftsman, take a look at Amish stores like the one in wildwood.
But be prepared to pay accordingly.
I have Sumter manufactured furniture from Carolina from 15 years ago that is pristine, and my wife said why don't we sell it and buy new when we get to Florida, well the answer was obvious and i said we will transport it and we are both glad we did.
Manufactures of real wood furniture have gone to the waist side and the furniture stores can't compete with the manufacture wood and labor cost.
Good luck folks and look in the talk in the villages under classified, a lot of folks are sell nice furniture for responsible prices.
It just takes some time to get what you want.
We had a plastic shelf for a TV stand for a year until we found what we wanted for a entertainment center, Normally 2k and up we did for less then 700 and over 12" long

 Is it just me? Seems like it happens everyday. Someone joins TOTV to bitch about something they could have researched here the day before.
Sometimes you have to come here to bit*^ after, to learn to come and research before.

No. It is not just you.
I guess we should try to understand, but I think common sense isn't common anymore. If you don't know a little bit about researching and shopping and comparing and observing and thinking long and hard before you shell out good money by the time you are old enough to live here, well then, it may be too late.
Welcome to the forum, OP. Most of us are nice and some of us are nice all of the time. But not me. Today.

Stores that operate like this and try to slide their garbage product into your home must be dealt with firmly. What an inconvenience. Your home ready to receive its furnishing and you spend your hard earned money to put the deal together and they do what they did. This can not stand. I'm not talking about any form of violence but what is the best way to get the attention of the management? Affect their income, they will turn things around quickly. So I'll start it off....my wife had selected a little over $8,000 in furniture from online selections that we were going to order when we arrive. Not any more. They are not going to put us through the mill. I am an devoted daily TOTV participant and may miss on positive or negative recommendations. Don't feel bad OP better things are coming your way. You have our support.

Spent $15,000 recently at City Furniture furnishing our new home. We love the furniture and had a good experience. We would not hesitate to use them again. Call me crazy.

Kane's attempted delivery on a defective piece of furniture to me almost a month ago. I declined delivery. They refused a refund or exchange and are trying to take 40% restock fee. I have disputed this from day one with the credit card co. and haven't heard a word. My next step is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. At least we have a piece of crap chair we bought from them 4 years ago to sit on until this gets resolved. Don't ever buy "bonded" leather.

My neighbor has a large CYV and has the outside looking great. Best landscaping on the block, big lanai with hot tube and water fall. On the inside he had every room painted and plantation shutters on every window and a new 65" 3D TV.
He goes to City Furniture to spend a couple thousand on a leather group for his LR. He saw in the paper that orders over $499 had free shipping. The sales woman added $150 shipping charge to his order and he disputed the charge and she wouldn't budge. He walked out and they lost a sale.
When he told me the story I relayed to him all the bad reviews and he's lucky he didn't buy the stuff. Yesterday he came over to tell me he picked up a nice leather sofa and love seat at Nearlee New Furniture on 441 just south of 466A for $500. He was very happy.

Your story sounds so familiar to my recent experience. Bought a dinette set and the first time we set on the chairs 2 of them broke. They brought 2 new ones and the delivery guys said we wouldn't want the new ones as they had screws sticking out and damage. They refused to take set back and took the 4 bad chairs and pieced 2 together to leave. Later all four were broke within a couple of days. Customer service is beyond rude and bottom line they wanted to charge me a 25% restocking fee, new delivery charges etc. if I came in and picked something else out. No return and full refund. I told them to stick it!! I also used a credit card which turns out to be my saving grace. I filed a disputed charge with my credit card company and just got credit back in the last couple of days. I would never buy at City Furniture again and I can't believe The Villages is promoting them by giving you discount coupons when you buy a new home. I let my realtor know my experience and hope other will do the same. The Villages needs to kick them out but I am sure the rental dollars will win out over us new home buyers who rely that because the Villages is promoting them they must be really good. Everyone needs to write a letter to the Morris Family and maybe they will get the message.
