We attended a meeting of the RDO Club Tuesday night and it was extremely interesting. Even though I've owned animals all my life, I learned some new stuff.

The new Dog Park at the Springdale Walking Trail looks like a certainty. It will have two fenced areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs.

There was a Vet at the meeting who described her new Mobile Vet Service. She is affiliated with Country Oaks. She seems like a really nice person and we were able to see her Mobile Van. She will come to your home and even do surgery in the Van, spaying, neutering, etc. I think it is a perfect service for many people including those with multiple pets, fearful dogs, or homebound people.

There was a speaker from a pet-food store. She described the ingredients in some popular pet foods and what they really mean. I was horrified. I came home and threw out all the pet food with by-products in it. (I don't even want to explain how by-products are obtained, it would make you sick). I have some samples of food to try, and the ingredients are much, much healthier.

RDOG is a great idea. I wish more dog owners were aware of the club & would adhere to responsible dog owner behavior. The dogs aren't the only ones who need training, evidently. While exercising at Chula Vista I could see out the window a man who was walking his dog, deposit his bag of dog droppings into a trash receptacle. Also, to those who "pick up" after their dogs, that isn't the end of it. If you let your dog "go" in a residential or well-traveled area, the odor & remaining debris are there to remind all of us that Fido was there. I like dogs. I just don't want to be reminded of the smell as I walk on my property or ride around in my golf cart.

do in fact act responsibly. As with any other subject (just fill in the blank _ _ _ _ _ _ ) the rhetoric is a result of the actions of a few, generalized incorrectly to the many.

For those with super sensative olfactory capability, if really that acute, the aftermath of a cleaned up a dog deposit, usual 8-12 feet or more away, outdoors, are the least of your unpleasant, much closer in proximity, daily encounters.:shrug:

I think you'd like Dynamic Dogs if you have active terriers. RDO is great also. Clubs are usually open to everyone. I recommend you try out DD, RFO and Pet Lovers.

They will be listed in the Recreation News which you will receive on Thursday in the Daily Sun. Or you can just look every day.

I'm usually at DDRR between 3 and 4 PM. I have a 10 lb black dog and a 70 lb grey lab/malmute mix. If you go mid-afternoon, I hope to see you there.

I'm usually in the back field (you access it by walking through the big dog area). That is where the hanging swings are!

TOTV Top poster, Tal, also goes frequently to DDRR. He has a tiny dog named Sport and is usually in the small dogs area.

The Dynamic Dog Club leans more toward training and behavior. Eg: CGC,Therapy Dog and R.E.A.D. program. They meet on the 4th Wed of the month. 7PM at Laurel manor.

I just noticed that I mentioned in my previous comment that the Dynamic Dog Club meeting was at 7pm. When in fact, it runs from 4-6pm on the last Wed of the month. At Laurel Manor Recreation Center. June meeting will feature Dr. Debra Rakes speaking on "First Aid for your dog". Sorry for the error!

The Dynamic Dog Club will have as its speaker for July, the founder of the awesome internationally known website on pet nutrition, Susan Thixton.
