I had a knock on my door this morning by two women solicitors. I told them I was not interested and closed the door. I immediately called Community Watch to report same. I was told that if they were religious solicitors, they are protected and cannot be prevented from bothering me in my home. I proceeded to ask that someone please check as I was uncomfortable with people wandering around my neighborhood. I was told someone had already complained and they were allowed due to that religious freedom decision. I'm not all that confident that anyone had checked, and one if the reasons I live here is not to have to deal with solicitors, religious or not. I would have liked some more cooperation from Community Watch and not to have been dismissed so quickly.

since they try to use the loophole that they aren't selling anything they can slip through the no soliciting regs, however, a no trespassing sign is enforceable.

Community watch has nothing to do with it. It's First amendment rights.
I can understand if you don't want them on your property. However, if it were me....I'd be more than happy to have them knocking on my door, than salesmen, or who knows.....
You didn't mention who this was. I'm assuming Jahovah Witness? They are quite harmless. Just say no thank you....they will leave.

If it's religion, they are allowed. You can try putting a sign on your door, No Solicitors. Community Watch can't do anything about it.

I have put up with the church knockers until one Christmas morning in the middle of our gift unwrapping they knocked on our door, ignoring the no tresspassing and solicitor signs. I was not a happy camper.

Installing a peephole in one's door has worked for me. If they are not a vendor I do business with, I don't even bother to answer the door.
Some vendors are more brazen than others, so one has to be careful. I just love when some landscapers ride around and if one's lawn or shrubbery is not up to par, they will knock on one's door.

That's just rude. They don't have to agree with your beliefs, but they should respect your beliefs and privacy on all Christian holidays.
I have a close relative that is a witness. It's made for some pretty lively discussions at our very Christian family gatherings.

A number of years ago, I was sitting in my living room, seething. I had just had a very heated discussion with my better half. It was a lovely spring day, but my patience was at a low ebb. Then came a knock at the door. I leaned back and looked out the open window behind me. There were two nice looking people on my porch, holding Bibles and brochures. We got regular visits from their organization and I had always tried to be polite. Today, I wasn't having any of it. I yelled out the window, "GO AWAY!"
I think that they must have their own "do-not-call" list because we weren't visited for a few years after that.

Tuesday afternoon I was in the recliner watching TV and was half asleep when I heard this loud banging and door bell ringing at my front door. I thought it was my neighbor because no one else would knock like that. Looking through the peep hole I couldn't make out who it was.
I opened the door and the guy said, Hi!! I'm Randy, I do the home deliveries for Omaha Steaks. I have a great deal on steaks. I looked out at the street and saw a pickup truck with a full size freezer in the back. I was so off guard, I didn't know what to say other than, I'm not interested and closed the door. I thought about calling Home Watch but it looked like he was headed out of our villas.

Next time they knock, open your door and hand them a paperback copy of Anton LeVay's satanic bible. They won't come back again. :read:

I don't mind them knocking, in their minds they are doing a good thing. I like the Big Guy Up There they are working for, so I just open the door, take their literature, thank them and do not say ONE word that could activate a discussion. Smile and close the door.
There cannot be any question who they are with their very telling "church clothes" from the seventies.
I suppose that burglars could dress up like them, but they would have to change before they went back to the hood.

Many years ago a friend was awakened from a deep sleep after a late night. He threw on a robe and headed down the stairs to answer the door. A quick look through the peep hole and he saw it was church dressed folks with bibles. He tossed off the robe and opened the door. They never, ever came back.

Joking around, I had discussed a similar course of action with my better half. I suggested that I would strip naked, put a couple of donuts on my ding-dong and open the door with a cup of coffee in each hand and say, "Coffee? Donuts?"
My dear wife said, "Do-NUT" and walked away.

In this day and age everyone is suspect. I lived in the hood in Elizabeth N.J. for several months until an investment property that I got mixed up in finally sold. Before I moved in the house was stripped overnight of every ounce of copper piping and are your ready for this...they took the front door. A midrange door maybe $600 gone. I didn't even report it, what was the use. Anyway I rented a Guard Dog, took our work truck and slept there every night. We had door knockers at the strangest times. They were just sizing up the situation. All that was stolen while I lived there was post hole diggers, a cheap barbeque, a garden hose. Follow up with Community Watch...something doesn't sound up to snuff. VERIFY EVERYTHING and get names!

I get the Mormon missionary kids on a fairly regular basis (not in TV). Just like Gracie I take the literature, say thank you with a smile and wish them a nice day.
There is no reason to be rude to anyone knocking at the door, if they are knocking at a reasonable hour, and that includes the solicitors. They’re just knocking on a door, not knocking it down.

Not true. Stores arent going to hand off meat to someone going door to door.
These meat scams have been going on for decades. Its low grade beef cut and packaged to give the impression of Prime Beef. The scammers all have some story about how they are giving you such a good deal. One bite into the "prime" steak and you will know you were taken.
Friend of mine got suckered into it years ago. He ultimatley ground all the meat up for his dogs.
