Yesterday in another thread someone mentioned the Wellness Center was moving to Spanish Springs and there would be no indoor pool. I find it impossible to believe that the most famous retirement community on the planet will not have an indoor pool. Can someone out there comment on what is going on?

I can only comment with some more questions:

Was the wellness center part of the amenity fee in any way?

Is the wellness center owned by the district governments?

Is the space being used by the wellness center owned by the Hospital?

What % of TV residents even belong the wellness center?

Are there other locations that have an indoor pool for use in the area (owned by outside businesses such as physical therapy)?

Was an indoor pool promised to any prospective home buyer? And if so is it in writing?

I think I'd need answers to this to be able to accurately ascertain any sort of blame. If, for example, the wellness center is a wholly owned business entity by itself then it is the same as any other business within TV or the surrounds. They have the right to move. If that means some of their business goes away because the new location does not have a pool then that is their business risk. We probably all have had, or heard of situations where, a gym that they joined and paid for upfront had closed its doors. It happened to me and guess what - no recourse! So now I only do month to month. The point is that things change, economy changes and TV will change with it. If other retirement destination become more appealing to me then I'll chose them but for now TV, with our without and indoor pool, still gets my vote.

If I knew anything about starting a business and had the money it looks like there's an opportunity here for something like a Bally's Health Club or Average Joe's Gym WITH a pool.

And then incorporate a small waterpark for visiting grand-kids.

So what you're saying is that "I don't know"?

That's fine. I just don't understand the furor over losing something that you need to pay extra for anyway. My questions were more sarcastic but not everyone gets my sense of humor.

I guess if there are no other indoor pools anywhere near TV then it is an issue but if you live in Duval then the wellness center is over 10 miles away. There may be another alternative? You're paying anyway. Are there any facilities within a 10 mile radius of TV that have an indoor pool? If so then join that facility. The wellness center is relatively expensive anyway.

i for one bought in the villages in part because the wellness center with it's indoor pool had just broken ground and meant i could swim even through florida's winter months.
like any new venture when they first opened they stated they'd exist forever and even expand as the villages grew but deep down i always knew maintaining an indoor pool might someday prove to be to expensive for them.

so will i think about moving, yes, but will i actually leave tv, probably not.
i'll just focus on exercise other than swimming for the months of january and february.

V99 - I hear ya!

So I guess the answer to one of my questions is that there is no other indoor pool that could be joined? If not then I agree with ALN that a business opportunity exists. Of course I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of those that are complaining (with some exceptions like V99) about the wellness center pool do NOT actually belong anyway. Any takers?

The three previous posts have made reference to BestMom but there is NO POST from her in this thread........ I'm confused ???

Also, if anyone knows of a nice fitness facility that has an INDOOR POOL within 10 mines of The Villages, please post the name and location; it would be a very enticing element to my desire to relocate there. :pepper2:

I am reading this and really upset. I need water therapy and am moving to tv soon. If this thread is correct, I am out in left field! I thought the wellness center at the hospital had such a service.
Please tell me this is just an incorrect rumor.

The Wellness Center ...IS... moving to La Reina building on Spanish Springs Town Square.
You can read the article in today's Daily Sun

What's not mentioned is the POOL.
No info on that.

O.K. You all know how I like POSITIVE, but for Pete's sake, I think they should have mentioned the Pool in the article in THE DAILY FUN! I have never thought to need an indoor pool but the post by the person that said he/she needed water therapy made me realize it was more important than just swimming for fun.

if you qualify for medically necessary water therapy i believe two of the lady lake rehabiliation centers in the villages have very small heated therapy pools. while not a replacement for the popular water classes at the wellness center. it might be an option for some folks.

Thanks guys....can you tell me where these heated therapy pools are located? I will be moving to Hemmingway soon. Is there a phone number where I can call them to get particulars on pool?

i checked and the correct name for the mult- location rehab facility in the villages is
lake centre for rehabiliation.
one small therapy pool is located in their facility directly in back of the wellness center. tele 352-753-6999.
the other i believe is at their facility on old camp road in sumter landing tele 352-259-6750.

The award-winning writer who penned the “Wellness Center Move” story for the developer (Daily Sun) knows there are at least three gaping questions left unanswered: what will become of the Wellness Center building after the move? What will become of the indoor swimming pool? And, since there are many Villagers who need water therapy and cannot tolerate the sun or other outdoor elements, what is their recourse? The story's silence to these questions is deafening. Oh well, don’t worry, be happy!

It just doesn't seem right! I think the Morse family could build this type of pool.........I think the world would notice and Disney for adults would explode with folks and homes would sell like hotcakes...

Think I am going to move to Japan!

Looks like a fantastic facility there in Japan.
Even a golf course in the backround.

I wonder HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO USE? ; and would we be willing to pay?

I totally agree with RR tho'.... I even picked out the spot.
That patch of land between the 2 Palmer courses on 466.

I think it would be a great place for a indoor pool; maybe with a gym inside; glass windows overlooking the courses & homes. What a view!

Rhonda, Maybe a letter direct to Gary Morse with a picture of this pool would start his creative juices flowing. I know I pay 100+ per month for pool upkeep. What would the market bear for something like this? Would you pay 1K per year for a household membership? How many households would be willing to join?
You just never know. Ask and you may receive. As someone pointed out, the press on this pool would be worth a small fortune to the marketing dept. Aln picked a wonderful location.
