It's out up north by Mulberry Grove Rec Center ~ it's been out for quite some time. We thought it was due to new construction on 42 but I'm thinking not... Last I heard it's suppose to be up around 7:45p... Although the DATE wasn't verified! :-)

Sorry about Comcast. BrightHouse is going full strength. We unloaded and killed off the dreaded Comcast virus over 2 years ago. No more unintelligible support staff, service within 24 hours if needed, no contract, etc., etc., etc. If you live south of 466A, I recommend BrightHouse over Comcast. If you live north of 466A, I recommend moving so you can enjoy great cable. (No, I don't have BrightHouse stock, or Charter, now Spectrum). I've lived in many places where Comcast was the only choice. It was like living on a collective in the old USSR. And Dish or Direct are great as long as there are no clouds wind, or other meteorological events going on.

As of last night my father's Internet was down in Chatham also, so it is pretty wide spread. This also means that my X1 for TV is down :(
I was just researching how to turn my Verizon phone into a WiFi hotspot for some meetings this AM and I noticed the Internet is back.
Hope it is back to stay. Longest outage I can remember. As someone who has worked in computer networking much of my career, I am interested in what the heck happened to cause such a widespread issue.
Maiercab

I emailed The ************** asking them about the reason for the outage. Maybe if a few more request this info they would more likely do an article. I am wondering! I also assume the outage is effecting (effected) more than half , if not all, Comcast subscribers - does anyone know if this is the case?

On now too. Was a long 12 hours without internet.
I don't understand how this all works. I thought it was beamed from a satellite and construction didn't play into outages. Dummy me.

Maybe if everyone took 1/30 off their bill for the next Comcast payment because of loss of service you had to pay for, they would be more responsive next outage. At least more communicative. If I knew why, maybe I would be more tolerant.

I looked in the so called newspaper and found no mention of the outage. Nothing but poor lip service as to estimated time of being restored. Missed the Hockey game and that in it self is enough to really make me hostile LOL. I will seriously rethink my options.

I think it is because they are still listing it as an outage, to be resolved by 12PM even though my home seems back to normal.
I watched as the expected resolve time went from 8PM to midnight to 5AM to 12PM...

My troubleshooting and research show that it was a failure on the provider's DNS Server to properly resolve domain names in their system.

I called Comcast yesterday when we noticed we had no service. Person I spoke to said it was an area wide issue and they were working it. I was given a ticket number and told Comcast would credit our account for the time of lost service.
Curious to see if such a wide spread issue will get everyone a credit or just those that called in.

I was told it was a fiber optic break (this was around 5 PM yesterday) with an estimated return time of 6:15 PM. A follow-up call at 7:30 stated repairs to be completed around 5 am.
Now here is the kicker, we had 15 to 20 hours of movies and TV shows recorded on our X1 DVR, which we COULD NOT BECUASE THE DVR NEEDS INTERNET ACCESS TO WORK!!!! How stupid is this! The shows were already recorded.
I will be having a follow-up call about this whole situation and suitable compensation.

Comcast is the worst service you can bring into your home. They have serviced me well for a while but I know the crash and burn and no communication thing is around the corner. They had us waiting for a serviceman for two days some time back. These service lapses are still there because we as consumers allow it to happen.
Look at the difference disputing a charge at American Express or Bank of America. American Express treats you as if you were family. Bank of America treats you like family, they transfer you four or five times and I swear its true, the last rep burped during the phone call, they are allowed to go forward without getting their act together just like Comcast. Are they allowed to have an outage? Certainly, but respect your customers or you won't have them.
Walt.

It came back UNLESS you have X1 (at least for me). I was able to watch my HD DTA connected TV but no X1 connected TVs. My X1 DVR recorded programs last night, but as Villagetinker points out we could not use the DVR using the remote.

Nucky - Concast is the worst service provider on the face of the earth. They have been terrible wherever we used them. When we first moved to TV we signed up for Concast because we were told they were the only provider in our area. (I learned that was not the case later.). During the first year we had the typical Concast issues, and averaged at least one day per month of down time. One Sunday afternoon we lost cable, Internet and our phone. Concast said it would be fixed by midnight. Monday morning we still had absolutely no service. I called Concast again. Got dropped/hung up on twice. On the third call I as told that they would send a tech out on Thursday afternoon. I explained we had no phone, Internet, or cable. They basically said "tough" and I would get a tech when they said so. This after spending almost 5 hours on the phone as I was bounced from one call center to another across the globe.
I called BrightHouse and had new phone, Internet, and cable Monday late afternoon - that same day that Concast said it would take them 3 more days to get to our problems. No contract, no muss, no fuss. Wonderful phone support and quick tech support when needed. I'm satisfied and recommend them highly.
When I called Concast to cancel their services, after BrightHouse was fully functional, Concast wanted to know why I was dissatisfied with their service. When I told them they had no response. So, my mantra is, if you use Concast, you deserve Concast. They are consistently a provider of inadequately poor service no matter where we have used them throughout the US. If you don't have access to an alternative cable provider, like BrightHouse, use Dish or Direct TV. Use anything but Concast.

Just pretend it's 1969, and put up a TV antenna. Why worry - bring back the "good old days" before internet and 400 cable channels. All cable companies (including Comcast) can be a PITA at times, and should be giving you more choices and credits when they can't provide service. Unfortunately, there are only so many wires connected to your house, so competition is restricted. Sooner or later, everything will be sent via satellite or over-the-air, and then we will have real competition and better choices and service.

I agree with you. I've been here on TOTV for a while now and the fact that this so called company Con cast can get dbussone and Villagetinker worked up say's it all. Con cast sucks. During the bad weather here in Jorsey I have television with Direct and all my neighbors loose service with Con cast but they hang with them because its a couple of dollars cheaper???? :22yikes:

Hello Fellow Villagers;
If you live south of 466A, brighthouse is available as an alternative to Comcast & Centurylink.
We offer Cable, Unlimited nationwide Phone Service, Internet with speeds up to 300 Mbps & home security service.
I am your local sales rep, if you are interested in finding out more information feel free to call or email me for more information.
I left you an email asking if you would extend the special pricing we've had the past two years. No response yet, been 9 days. So I'll be going elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned, getting a low price by moving around is worth the inconvenience. After all, most of us are on a fixed income.

Been a Brighthouse customer for 10 yrs. but after the first year you have to watch your bill because it can change monthly. When you call them you are told that your promotion ended. They gave me a $5.00 a month credit but 2 months later bill went up $18.00. I finally cancelled and put an antenna in the attic.

This may be an unfounded rumor, but I heard someone say that the outage even included Atlanta.
If so that scares me. Is some outside foreign bunch testing to see if they can throw us sideways?
Please some responsible person say it wasn't that widespread..................and tell me I what I heard was wrong.

I don't know if ATL is impacted, but this outage map makes it appear like much of the East Coast has problems, along with most of FL.

villagetinker: I have XI Triple play and like it alot. The outage did cause the loss of two DVR programs but I went to On Demand and watched the lost episodes there.
I like the voice activation and other added features of X1. The more I explore the more features I discover provided by X1.
Comcast service has always been responsive to my needs. The field people have been terrific. the guy who installed my X1 system got caught in the rain while working on installing better outside cables in my utility box and so I had a new golf shirt I bequeath the guy least he'd catch a cold as he went on to his other appointments.
As to the outage itself. Well for me it was a time to get reaquainted with my wife, some reading and a whole lot of wonderful quiet. My wife beat the pants off me in Scabble
Personal Best Regards

Bada Bing is called Satin Dolls. A real sleaze joint. They filmed the first episode of Sopranos down the street from our house. They built an exact replica of the Vesuvio restaurant and blew it up. We had no clue who they were or what this would become. Their house is now considered old school but unbelievable to see. I am a huuugghhhh fan. Go to the app store in your phone and download The Sopranos Quiz. It will keep you busy till the Con cast service comes back on. :1rotfl:
