Heard about Texas Roadhouse. Last night we decided to try it. Husband and I arrived about 5:40pm. No parking spaces. Bad sign we figured. We go in and are aghast at the shear column of mankind. We could hardly get in the door. The entrance was blocked and the waiting room area was filled. I think they might have been violating some fire code. People trying to leave the restaurant were having difficulty getting through the blocked entrance. This ids off season! I don't wait very long to be seated in restaurants, but was determined to try what must be gastronomic nirvana. After 50 minutes we were finally given a table. Loud music, dancing staff, clapping. No possibility of conversation. We ordered and ate. What I don't get is what's so wonderful about it to draw this amount of people. It about the same as Cody' s. May I repeat- this is off season. What is it going to be like when snow birds return?
Doubt we would return.

We went to Texas Roadhouse on Wednesday for the first time. Pretty darn good, I'd say. Tender small steak and decent salad and baked potato for not a lot of money. The servers were really personable and attentive.

The only fly in the ointment was a fly at our table. Hate flies when I am eating. I spent a few minutes wondering what they could do about it but enjoyed the food.

I went there the other night for the second time. The service was first class, the food ok, but the noise level will keep it off a regular schedule. If someone wants to go there, I will go with them, but doubt that I will suggest it. WAY too high energy for me.

It really matters what day & time you choose to go. Saturday evening at 5:40 is probably the busiest time. Try a different day or earlier in the afternoon.

Noise levels in most TV restaurants are too high for us to talk comfortably.
Bonefish isn't quiet; but it's about the best we've found.

The OP did address what she thought of the food. she said it was no different that what was offered at Cody's. she also explained why she was drawn to this restaurant .

I must confess that the name "Texas Roadhouse" gives me no clue as to its noise level???

I give the OP credit for her patience in waiting 50 minutes to give the restaurant a try. I would have balked the moment I discovered the parking lot was overflowing. However Mrs would prompt me on. However seeing columns of mankind as described by the OP would have me running to Olive Garden :D

I told my wife the only meal worth waiting for was one cooked by her.

I guess if you are a festive person and don't mind all the noise, then its for you. When we lived in Wesley Chapel, we had a Texas Roadhouse that opened there and I gave it two tries. I don't have any desire to visit one ever again, but that is just my opinion.

In talking to someone who has owned several restaurants over the years, I asked him why the loud intentional noise at TRH? He said that in the past he had consulted with experts on sound levels in restaurants....the good, the bad, etc. He said that there is a certain amount that is recommended so that people feel it is a busy, thriving restaurant.
I get that.....but in a senior community, I don't think it's appropriate. However, my thinking must be in the minority if the place was as crowded as it is.

I agree 100%. With that many people the noise level will be beyond my comfort zone. The last time we dined at Bonefish we had similar numbers of customers and noise level and we were there at 4:30 on a Wednesday. However, it was middle of April. Texas Roadhouse and Cody's Roadhouse must be brother & sister---very similar. Frankly, we like Outback and Longhorn a little better.

We tried to go to Bonefish last Tuesday night at 6:30pm. People were hanging out the door and standing all over the bar area waiting for tables. Went to the hostess stand and asked the silly question "How long of a wait for two people?" She said it would be 80 minutes! Needless to say we left. It's June people so not a good sign! Many seasonal people aren't seasonal anymore! Very scary. :ohdear:

Florida recently became the second most populated state.

Please don't blame the developer.

Also. Most new people to The Villages don't cook. UNTIL they get a couple of credit card statements.

(I just made that part up)

Wanted to get a take home order and taste Texas Roadhouse' ribs and was told it was $20 for a slab of ribs and two sides. I then called Oakwood for their slab of ribs and two sides and they are running a June special for $12. Big price difference and I know how good Oakwood's ribs are so it was an easy decision.

Could be the "specials" or newspaper coupons that draw the crowd.

Texas Roadhouse has a call ahead program. We call and are placed on the waiting list before we leave home.

That said, I do love their steaks but hate the noise. So it is not a favorite of ours.

We have learned to go very early or very late to avoid the crowds. That's anywhere here in TV. We do not consider dining between 5:00-7:00. Much too crowd and too much noise for me. It's worse of course, during the winter, but still we prefer the off hours just to have a more pleasurable experience.

Also, Outback and Bonefish have call ahead seating. I won't wait an hour anywhere. Period.

My brother and I ate at Texas RH in Springfield, Ohio today after church and didn’t have to wait. It’s normally very crowded but we arrived a little bit early as we had a lay speaker whose sermon was good ++ and short. When down with my grandsons to TV in about seven days, I would take them to it except my one grandson has an extreme peanut allergy. I am sure we will find many other acceptable places, not Cody’s(peanuts again) to eat if my wife doesn’t insist on our eating at home.

Wife and I went to the new Texas Roadhouse for first time tonight at 6 PM. Were told wait would be about 5 to 15 minutes and they gave us a flasher. We started to go to the peanut eating waiting area and the flasher went off, was seated and ordered in less than 5 minutes. Service was very attentive, my wife said her steak was the best she has had in Fla. I had the ribs on a prior recommendation by my cousin and they were very good.

My wife mentioned it was our anniversary and the staff came to our table and sang Happy Anniversary and took our pics.

If you drive 30 minutes north to Ocala you could enjoy a really wonderful steak house - Mark's Prime Steakhouse. The other night I had a bone in sirloin that was just out of this world. It was pricey though.

Tried the one here and it was the same experience.
They kept turning up the music in an already obnoxiously loud place to begin with.

You know what they say, "If the volume is to high, your to old."
Seriously, I don't like having my meal with loud, distracting sounds. A meal should be enjoyed in a peaceful atmosphere, not where you need to wear ear plugs and can't converse with your company, no matter how good the food. Also, my max. waiting time for a table is no more than 30 min.

I understand that the entire experience did not meet your comfort level. We have several local Steak Joints that are equal to Texas Roadhouse but not as much fun. I can understand about the noise level because it is a bit much. If I was a food critic I would give them a 9 out of 10 for the food and a 6 out of 10 for the atmosphere. In the positive column the lighting is good, I could read the menu. The A/C was painful, just the way I like it and the waiter was excellent. We will return but never will wait in line.

A prime steak is pricy. For most folks in TV, the casual steak houses appeal because they are not too pricey. We will do the "pricey" occasionaly on a special occasion. We always liked Vic Embers in Leesburg---too bad it burned.

There is a sick addiction in America today. It is called musical noise oppression. When the violin player arrives at a dance with an amplifier bigger that a car- you know there will be no conversation that night. Find the same problem at many restaurants. After reading a few posts here, we will quietly avoid Texas Road Houses.

I think the word "Roadhouse" is synonymous with noise.
Unlike retirees, I think a lot of young people must like to eat in noisy surroundings.
Below is a review of a Roadhouse in Illinois.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Every now and then we get the urge to try restaurants that serve prime rib. We checked on-line and found the Texas Roadhouse fairly near us. The music in the restaurant was so loud, we couldn't hear the waitperson ask for our order. We asked - no, begged - that the music be turned down a bit. The reply was "We're getting ready to dance!" Even after the dance was over, the music was so loud, it really negatively impacted our meal.
So loud we couldn't order - Texas Roadhouse, Countryside Traveller Reviews - TripAdvisor (https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowUserReviews-g35849-d6586404-r219066924-Texas_Roadhouse-Countryside_Illinois.html#)

Yea can imagine trying to stuff food in your mouth at the rate of the beat of the song. it happened to a group of us some years back at a Mexican restaurant when suddenly I announced that I became conscious of the fact that I was spooning my food in to the beat of the music and to my surprise other people in the group chimed in "me too":D Turn the beat around...........

After reading through these comments I'm going to say there will be no more wait time as the place is too noisey for most. I like the food and haven't found the place to be very noisey, I learned also to just go late and avoid what I call" Village dinner time" I tend to live outside the box.

After 7 PM is a great time to go out to dinner.

I'm not a big fan of all the noise, but in my experiences in eating at Texas Roadhouse, the food is great and the service is excellent. The steaks are excellent and always cook to perfection and the baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter is to die for. The bread is fantastic.

As long as too many people are not having birthdays it's not usually too bad.

We ate at Outback last week and I'll never go there again. I ordered a steak and I got a huge clump of salt and some other spices with a steak inside. I wanted to trim off the entire outside of the steak. Talk about ruining a good steak.

I must confess that the name "Texas Roadhouse" gives me no clue as to its noise level???

Restaurants with the word "Roadhouse" in their names are sending a message that they are casual to the point of being rowdy. In venues where there is a younger crowd than The Villages it is not unusual to have fist fights break out, with an occasional knifing. The music is loud and the lighting is subdued, with lots of neon signs advertising beer.

Roadhouses of this ilk can usually be discerned by the presence of a large, surly bouncer on the premises.

The word "Texas" in the subject under discussion indicates the theme. Admittedly, it is a stereotype of what people expect a Texas theme should be; loud and vulgar. I am a Texan and have regularly eaten in outstanding BBQ restaurants (not Roadhouses) throughout central Texas from Austin to San Antonio, and found them to be tranquil places, without being dull, where the food was outstanding.

I have no interest in dining where the noise level makes table conversation difficult, no matter how good the food and service.

I don't like the steaks at Outback either, too many spices or something that hides the actual steak flavor, but their prime rib is really good. The spices are only on the outside.

Not at all what Texas Roadhouse is about!

It is basically a cowboy themed version of Cody's- which also had Roadhouse in it's name.

It is a fun filled casual restaurant with moderate priced food and you can drink and toss peanut shells on the floor.

If it is too noisy, don't go there. Don't worry about knife fights or surly bouncers. They aren't there. Cold beer is there!

Strange. You contradict my post and then affirm what I said.

1. Texas indicates the theme.
2. Roadhouse indicates casual.

As stated, the bouncer and knifings reference was to other venues where it is a younger crowd. You want to see fights, try the Dallas Bull in Tampa. Young crowd. Bouncers. Fights. Cops called.

In any restaurant, there are some things to consider.
There can be: Problems with the cook(s), with the amount of tables, with the amount of servers, the managers or assistant managers, the noise level or substitute for music, the deliveries of food products. There are many factors but it is up to the manager or assistant manager to make it all work. A good manager will find a way to make it all happen, that is what they are paid to do. Some places do not make this happen and so it is up to the customer to make their own decision or to walk. Many people like to harp on because of this or because of that, well, the manager is Captain of the Ship. If it is listing, then he is the guy that should take care of the problem, now.
