The Villages Gourmet Club's Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/The-Villages-Gourmet-Club-241103526018764/) has just announced that Brownwood Paddock Square is getting a new German restaurant.
Hooray! That's just what we need!

According to the Village Gourmet site it says "Originally opened July 24, 2014 as Las Tapas Spanish Tapas Bar Restaurant and Brewery , it will soon change to a German-European restaurant, keeping the brewery portion. New chef is working on the menu. Bill Doherty's "Singing Servers" will perform on Thursdays at 5:30 PM. A summer 2016 grand re-opening is expected. Richard Heston remains owner."
So it doesn't look like we're getting another restaurant, just a cuisine change if I'm reading this correctly.

Glad to hear that. German Restaurant is a different choice. Tapas wasn't my cup of tea but German I can do. Wish them luck.

If Las Tapas couldn't make it why would a German one be successful?

Las tapas was hit and miss for food. German food and Europe food if done well will be great. Good food is abundant here. Great food is hard to find. But just my opinion. That's why we continue home cooked meals.

Well that explains the "Under New Management" signs and signs touting German food....it did seem a little strange that Las Tapas was adding German items to their menu!

Las Tapas had really good food but hardly a Spanish tapas restaurant atmosphere. I feel that hurt its success, because the expected dining experience just wasn't there. Hopefully, there will be more of a German feel to the new place.

Ya. Gute. Mein Schatz.

I have been to my share of German Restaurants, and highly touted ones. They never tasted as good to me as that served at home. I always thought that it was because the stuff served there was from another part of Germany than my Grandparents were from.

We always liked Las Tapas, but the recent menu changes made it apparent not enough other people did. Not sure how German will do, but it makes sense with the brewery setup.

I always figured it was because the restaurant never smelled as good as my Aunt's house when she served her made from scratch sauerbraten, red cabbage and ****offel kloesse! ;)

I was wondering how much sense a brewery setup makes when it is located within a few steps of World of Beer.

A German restaurant sounds like a great idea, especially if the food is good.

Having a brewery will fit right in with TV lifestyle. WOB is fairly expensive and they should do, their fair share of business. IMHO

I know my German friends will like to see, what it's all about!

I'd be excited if they serve breakfast. Brownwood lacks breakfast restaurants other than Two Jays and Dunkin Donuts which doesn't have a full breakfast menu.

Saturdays only open at 9:00 AM. The rest of the week at 11:00 AM. Then not a full breakfast menu.

Arrived about 6:00 this evening after calling earlier and being told that German food was indeed on the menu now. We were informed upon arrival that the kitchen was backed up and there would be about a 20 minute delay over the "normal" wait for getting food as the kitchen was backed up. My estimate is fewer than half the seats were taken. Decided it would take almost that long to go elsewhere and get seated so we stayed. Server arrived and we asked if we could look at menus while we waited. We were then informed they were out of all of the German offerings so we decided to leave.

We left disappointed, not mad. They are new and need a chance to get their act together so we will wait until a week or two after their grand opening then try again.

Most important thing for any business to succeed is to listen to their customers--Bernie Marcus , the founder of Home Depot, said" his customers made the Home Depot"

Most of the restaurants that fail in this area , never listened to constructive criticism or read the comments on this site.

I notice that it is the same owner. Not sure if that is a good sign of future success. Hopefully a German restaurant is more his expertise.

Nope, Richard is a brewmeister not a chef.

20 minute wait for food orders when it is only half full? Not a good omen.

Then to learn that the new food is sold out? I'm outta there.

We went there when they first opened as Las Tapas, the mgr was a dj, after several foul ups on drinks & menu items, I asked to speak to the mgr, he (the bartender said he was the mgr) he told us to leave & the bill was on the house- never set foot in there again

Looks like the a second edition of the Titanic stopping for ice again

We're a tough audience, but unless you give the customers what they want they will go someplace else & you're out of business.

I tried the "new" restaurant on Wednesday and was very disappointed. It looks like management doesn't have any experience in the operation of a restaurant.
The employees were poorly trained and even though it wasn't busy they still had us wait 15mins. for a table because they were short on help.
Very limited German menu (5 items) and they had run out of two of them. My friends had gone earlier and had the same experience. We ended up going to Cody's for dinner.

advice to the owner cut your loses, and bail

you did zero demographic research, did not know your competition and more important a lousy business plan--more of an exercise in personal importance than trying to make money ?

Learn from this mistake & don't repeat it

Unless the chef is German, sets the menu, and selects product, this will not be a German restaurant but rather a German themed restaurant.

We ate there last night. Had the Curry Wurst and tried the German APA Ale. We both got sick at 2 AM. I am pretty sure it was the food. Too bad, we both love good German food. Until I hear better reviews on TOTV I would not cross the street to go there much less travel from Spanish Springs.

We went to the Bavarian Brewhaus in Brownwood tonight and had a wonderful dinner. After reading the negative reviews on this site, I was a bit reluctant to go there. The chef is actually German and the pork schnitzel is not from the Sysco bag and thrown in a deep fryer like every place else. It is a nice piece of pork, hand breaded and pan fried. My friend had a nice discussion with the chef, who comes around to the tables. They had live music, tonight it was Ron theMusic Man, our favorite. The dark beer is tasty. All around, a delightful evening. Give it a try
