Has TOTV become rather boring lately? I don't know if it's because of the moderators pouncing on every post that they deem unacceptable ("get back to the original post or else this thread will be closed", "several posts have been removed because they did not directly address the original topic", or closing the post for no apparent reason, just because they feel like it), or the quashing of differing opinions by other posters. Even discouraging discussing topics that have been discussed in previous posts, as if one should not ever bring that subject up again. Maybe there really isn't much left unsaid, and TOTV is becoming a groundhog day forum. Lately, it's almost like taking a sleep aid. Is TOTV going the way of the Daily Sun, which really is not much news, but a daily sales paper. Next, people will be posting their Fitbit data or selfies of them in their golf carts.

I don't think it's boring......if you mean non confrontational I think that's a good thing......TOTV can mean different things to the subscribers.
To me, it's for information and help to people living in The Villages or new residents.

All of what you say is possible. I have seen a lot of moderators, some are waaaaay too loosy goosey and allow discussions and meanness to run rampant and others are very strict and delete a lot of stuff that is just a good debate among opinionated old people.
It depends how you mean "the quashing of different opinions by other posters". Hey...sometimes people are good with words and win a debate. The reason for a forum is to discuss, debate, disagree, agree, and we all have perimeters that make us uncomfortable. I go banana's when people come on THIS forum and seem to look down on people because they are old-er. No one set out to be old-er, well maybe they did, the alternative is not appealing.
You get where I'm going, kiddo?

no NO no no. I like a good discussion....I have learned a lot and have been wrong many times. I know your post was tongue in cheek. I try to remember the personalities of posters. Sometimes similar names are confusing...there are so many with golf in their name and several with photo, and a bunch of Walters....

I remember, when I first joined TOTV and almost everyone was helpful, where a lot of great info was dispensed. I met some nice people and made a few friends.
Sadly, most message board members feel, they can call others names and be totally disagreeable, because they are anonymous. Some people don't post their picture because they don't want to run into other TOTV members when they are out and about in TV, after they have been disrespectful to them.
Most people haven't or don't even try to master the art of "agreeing to be disagree respectfully". They feel their truth, is the only truth or I am only telling like it is. We all can all have a healthy discussion, without resulting in childish name calling or marginalizing another's point of view.
Those who want argumentative discussions can always sign onto the political board which I am told, can be nasty.

TOTV is a great source of information. I hope it sticks around a long time.
It’s especially helpful for people like me. I’m looking at homesites and hope to build in the not so distant future. I get information from my agent in TV Sales and I get information here. Both are equally valuable. I might be inclined to say TOTV is more valuable but TV Sales may be listening :)

TOTV has been an invaluable source of a wide variety of information for us since before we finalized plans to move here. I have always appreciated the quick responses to my questions. One of these days, I'm going to make it to a gathering of subscribers and put some faces to "handles." I enjoy checking in daily to see what everyone's chatting/griping about - some days the topics are up my alley, other days, not so much.

Sadly I have noticed a lot of regulars have left TOTV.
I think some felt ganged up on when posting an opinion.
It used to be more fun and now some have just given up on this forum.

I agree with the other posters that the TOTV can be a good source of information. I also agree with the OP that we seem to be in a lull of debateable topics. I think tree cutting, MMP stripping and bridge sinking, took a lot out of posters. These three topics became rather heated and nasty. Least I forget a good dog poop discussion!

I've been a member since 2007. It's true, a lot of the old regulars have migrated from TOTV to Facebook.
But I think that's because they're not newbies anymore, and TOTV is an excellent source of information for newbies.
However, once a few years have passed and people have added their birdcages and updated their houses,
the contractor recommendations aren't as valuable.
A lot of old TOTVers find Facebook to be a better way of contacting people and expressing themselves.
I don't know of anyone who left because they felt ganged up on.
Also, some people left because of the new Political format.
Now that everyone is identified as Guest, I rarely read Political.
When I do, I think there is more mud slinging and less serious debate.

I think Barefoot has a good point about a lot of people just move on.
TOTV is still a good source of information.
But over time you "settle in" and don't need as much info.
You also get busy doing your own thing.
I will admit I miss a lot of the "regulars" who frequented this forum.

Might as well say something I've felt for quite some time...
IMHO, adding the political forum was a huge mistake. It's nasty, serves no useful purpose, and detracts from the integrity of ToTV.

I agree it's a nasty place, especially because people don't have to identify themselves or take any ownership for their posts.
I think TOTV has done something right by making the Political Forum an opt-in feature.

I think, too--and I don't know why--that the forum is more lively during the busy season but gets a bit lethargic along with the rise in temperature and snowbird departure.
My dogs don't poop in the summer, either.

Bringing back Political Talk was a good thing and something I looked forward to when signing on each time. TOTV was wise to establish the format they had when they re-established it; albeit I wished they had at least allowed a poster to edit his/her comments.
Having said that yesterday's comments on a Political Talk post tried my patience once too many times. So my last post on Political Talk was an announcement of taking a break from Political Talk. The reason was at least one poster who continually posts hateful moronic comments .
The desire to post hateful remarks on TOTV isn't for the most part the reason for anonymity. In my view people just like their privacy. Indeed the years spent on TOTV have taught those types are few and far between.
Returning to Political Talk you have heard my "in our family you were required to debate politics and religion, it was cooking debates that got you into real trouble. You have witnessed the cooking debacle on these pages may time via restaurant discussions, etc.
As to boring no because the true value in my view is listening (reading) what other people think, its how they reason, etc.
I was at a mall yesterday and noticed a guy with a cigar in his mouth and I made comment that I'll bet he liked to light that up. He smiled and said no stopped smoking 40 years ago but still like to chew the darn things. From there I learned his career choice had been academia and from there about a half hour conversation
Free speech is guaranteed to offend somebody but free speech is also an invigorating exercise which fills that vacuum we call knowledge and which we have a right to retain or expel.
As to moderators, well they have a tough job but rules are rules and when one signs on they agree to the rules. beside if a moderator strikes one of my post s/he may have done me a favor by preventing me from making a jerk of myself:D
Personal Best Regards:

Whoever you are Mr or Mrs Polar Bear I agree with you and always agree with you :highfive: but what else would faceless political wizards be doing with their free time? :cryin2: Ruining the other threads. Let them stay in their dirty little sandbox. If they can't put their name on it then its just fluff anyway.

I have felt like throwing up from some of the recent stuff on the political board. It is hardly boring though.
I am on the various Facebook groups of Villagers at least the ones I know about. But will stay on TOTV as well as I have been on here since July 2007.

I'm with you, PB. I didn't realize there was an opt-in feature. I just ignore it as well. In addition, I remember a frequent poster on this forum saying that if they see a post from "Guest", they don't even read it.
