We are new to TV and will be travelling back and forth to our previous home quite a lot this year. Is there a drop of site for trash as we will often return a day or two before our pick up day.
I don't believe there is. We have neighbors who sometimes leave before trash collection day. They leave the bundled trash in their garage and we put it out for them. Do you have neighbors who might be willing to let you "store" your bagged trash in their garage and have them out it out on collection day, or if you are willing to leave them a key, would they take it from your garage and puit out on collection day?

I don't know of a site either. We have been known to plan our departure from the Villages the day of or the day after our trash collection! On the occasion that such a departure is not feasible, we eat out so that we don't generate "wet" trash [between collection and departure] and then take the "dry" trash with us! It's just a two day drive at most. And if we are in a pinch we can leave it with our neighbor who will put it out with his.

Welcome to The Villages! This is the best way to handle your situation. Been there, done that. There is no drop off site.

In my neighborhood they set it out when they leave. It might set there two or three days. Nothing bothers it. Not very pretty, but it works.

What time can I put out the garbage?
Garbage bags must be placed at the curb no sooner than 9 p.m. the day before your scheduled pick up and no later than 6:00 a.m. the day of pickup.

I have seen an overnight garbage bag torn apart, by an animal, I presume.

Boy, that sounds familiar. I'd hate to ask a neighbor to store my trash in their garage in this summer heat. We too try to schedule departures around trash day, or else don't eat anything whose leftovers cannot go down the disposal.

Not to mention that it is the biggest hint to anyone driving by that the house is not occupied.

It may not be allowed but I would suggest that there are large trash dumpsters at each rec center where a single bag of trash is not going to overload. And you are paying for that trash collection in your fees. I would much rather you break that rule than place your garbage by the curbside 2 days early. Do we have trash police? Anybody going to rip open those plastic bags for DNA evidence of the crime? I hope not.

There's too much wildlife, like bears, that will rip those bags open and will strew garbage all over the street.
There should be a couple of places in TV where big dumpsters are placed (and wood-fenced in) so we can put our trash in there when leaving town days before our scheduled pickup.

um... 2 big dogs x 2 poops each per day. No way am I asking a neighbor to deal with that in a trash bag.
If I left it in the garage and gave somebody the code, they would faint upon opening the door. We schedule trips around. But I would take it to our county trash site if there is one.

There must be a Sumter County dump nearby but I'm not sure where.
