Candidate Supporters

Just curious, are political candidate supporters allowed to set up tables at the Post Office Boxes? Had a couple at ours today.....

Why not? It is always good to see the information on the candidates and to talk with others concerning their views.

had a lady school board candidate at mine a couple of weeks ago. I asked her who she supported for superintendent and she gave me a wishy washy answer that both candidates were good. Lost my voted.

Excellent point; I agree. I've met a couple of candidates this way and appreciated the ability to converse and learn more about them than I would get out of a typical campaign brochures.

They have been at the Post Offices since we moved here in 2005. Quite infrequently but they show up for elections for various local offices.

Yes. And they are allowed to knock on your door if I remember correctly.

I just ignore them I make my own choices. As long as they do not bend my ear with political BS we are good to go.

Sometimes they are there to gather the thousands of signatures needed for a candidate to get onto a county ballot.

If they want to go up against a local party "machine" that has everything rigged and keeping them in office for decades, I'll sign for a candidate to at least get onto the ballot regardless of party affiliation (unless they're obviously corrupt and paid for....I've been told that a payment of thousands can be paid in lieu of signatures!).

We should all want honest, responsive candidates on both sides on the ballots, as either can win and we have to live with it.

I for one appreciate any person who is willing 1) to run for public office and 2) stand out in the blazing afternoon heat here in The Villages to introduce themselves to the voters. I met a very nice woman today running for School Board who gave me a handout and let me be on my way. I'm glad she reminded me that there are school board elections coming up in August that I need to educate myself on. And I appreciate being able to meet a candidate in person, rather than having to rely upon advertising in the media which only seems to pander to the voters.
