Dr Kevin Accola in Orlando is an expert! He did my husbands surgery lasy July because we did not feel comfortable with the doctors and hospitals locally. He has a team that is outstanding and everyone works together. He is the chief of Florida Hospital
Thoratic. We got a beautiful room overlooking the lake and the nurse jokingly said "his patient only get the best".
We had all the testing done here in the Villages and it was decided he needes a replacement valve, we made an appt with Dr. Accola. Taking all the test results/xrays with us, it was only one appt and we had our surgery date for 2 weeks away.
He has a utube video online.... do the research, you will be very pleased with what you find.

I have had mitral valve performed twice in Boston, and it is my understanding that mitral cannot be performed closed chest. Of course I am not a cardiac thoracic surgeon and up to date on all the new medical procedures. I realize however that the aortic can be done closed, but mitral? Interesting info to know for my next surgery.

Munroe Medical Center in Ocala has an outstanding staff --- start with Dr. John Bittyl.

Yes, Dr. John Bittyl is very good along with his staff. A local cardiologist misread an echocardiogram and let's just say it didn't look too good for me. My PCP sent me to Munroe with Dr. Bittyl for a heart cath and their team was exceptional. I would highly recommend him if anyone was looking.

I stopped by the village hospital Friday at 4:20, They are going to give copies of my tests to send up to Ohio, feeling lucky to being part of The Villages..
