Our roadside insurance is about to run out through our dealer. We are considering AAA. For those who have it, do you consider it a wise investment? There are 3 category's Classic, Plus and Premier. Which do you have? Thanks.

Plus. It has come in handy at times. At you get various discounts but few that seem relevant to the Villages. AAA Plus Membership (http://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/Membership/Plus.aspx?nvbar=Membership:MembershipLevels:Plus)

We never leave home without it and chose the 100 mile tow plan. NY AAA doesn't have 3 tiers, just 2.

We also have it and am glad we do. A couple of years ago, I unfortunately left my dome light on (I must have left it turned on very low and did not see it) at the Detroit airport. When we got back, I found my battery dead and we called AAA. Response times of course vary upon location, weather (if in the middle of a snow storm for example....), and time of day. We only waited about 20 minutes before a dispatched truck showed up. The driver was very courteous, gave my battery a jump and checked everything out. He also told me that I would not need a new battery, that my battery should be fully charged by the time I got home (about 2 hours away). It is like an insurance that you pay for, hope to never use, but are glad you have it if you need it.

Had it for years and also get it for my children. If you have an accident, dead battery or breakdown it is nice to have a number to call if your car is out of service. I get the 100 mile towing. The short towing (3 miles?) is not worth it. By the way it covers you in any car as I recall. I think their are limits to the number of tows per year. Never had a problem when we have called for help and we have done it in a number of different states.

As long as I have an automobile, I will have AAA.

With most of the new cars not having a spare tire, I would not consider driving without out it.

What are the other differences, I never bothered to change mine from ny to florida. I assume the Florida is better?

Have Plus - Wouldn't be comfortably without it. Over 50 years AAA has helped in several tough jams.
While updating my golf cart insurance at AAA last week. I was informed that AAA also provides Golf Cart towing (via flatbed), included in my AAA membership (a $39 value). The coverage for Golf Carts is only applicable to Florida. Another reason to continue my AAA membership.

I have had AAA Motor Club since 1988. Fortunately, I have only needed them a handful of times, but it is nice to know they are there. Last October, I had only had my car parked for about 4 hours one day after attending a meeting, and came out of the meeting to find the 3 years old battery on my car was dead. In the Chicago area, AAA has a battery replacement service that I took advantage of. AAA replaced the battery on the spot on my 2002 Subaru Forester for $115 (that included the labor charge) with a 3 year warranty on the new battery. I have also used them to replace a few flat tires over the years. If I am staying at a hotel, I check to see if they offer a AAA discount. IMHO AAA is a good value.

There are three plans: Classic, Plus and Premier. You can compare the different plans on aaa.com. For years we carried my husband, myself and my five children on the Plus plan. Various scenarios that we encountered through the years were keys locked in the car, flat tires, numerous tows that included long distance for some of them. I was grateful that my daughter was not stranded one night that was quite a distance from home. My car has been jump started in frigid weather (not a problem in TV)! My son drove in someone else's car, who did not carry AAA,when the other car became disabled. The friend's car was covered. Years ago our car was hit in Montreal. A flat bed truck took the car to a mechanic to see if the car was mechanically sound to drive. That was also covered. AAA has pulled us out of many jams and has offered me a peace of mind when my family members are out on the road.

We have AAA plus and would not be without it. we have only needed it about three times in 10 years, but each time they were there quickly, and took care of us very efficiently. When we travel and book hotels, I always look for their discount.
We have the 100 mile towing option.

I had an OEM battery replaced by AAA a few months ago while parked at Sam's club here (it was only three years old also).
I went inside and asked Sam's if they had one and it turned out they didn't. I then called two parts stores and asked the cost, before calling AAA because I'm figuring that their convenience of coming to the vehicle would result in a higher price.
As it turned out, AAA's cost was only $5 more (with the warranty), so the guy came over and changed it out.
I also tipped him $10, which still made the whole thing very efficient and low stress.

Have Plus and had it for many years. I understand that it will also cover your golf cart with few exceptions. Also get a monthly readout on my credit report at no charge.

I've been with AAA about 30 years and they have rescued me several times. Always reliable and available 24/7, wherever you are. I upgraded to Premium this year mostly because of the towing benefits I also like their map and trip planning services and that they have an office here in The Villages.

The trip planning service offered at the Bichara Blvd. office is worth the membership alone. Booked a three week road trip there, and it made the planning of hotels and attractions easy with some nice cost savings. And they put the final product in a collated binder for your day by day itinerary.

I have a couple of good boring stories about AAA but other posts have mentioned more than enough good ones. Bottom line, AAA is a great value and worth every dollar you pay for it. OP, you can go on-line or into their office and get brochures on the different plans. They are all good.

We have had AAA for many years and have used it many times. I think it's well worth it. You can call the local AAA office in Spanish Springs area and ask about their regularly scheduled seminars that you can attend to learn about all of the benefits that a membership offers. Benefits go way beyond the valuable roadside service.

Had AAA for +20 years thru my employer (it was free), it was nice.............but not worth the cost. Travel information services are available on the internet. Roadside assistance services is more or less an insurance policy. I don't buy insurance for things I can afford.
AAA is dying with the "senior" generation.

We've had AAA for years and some of my past employers had it for their service fleets. I believe AAA also has a great bail bond coverage as well.

as someone once said to me "a cell phone and an AAA card" gives you a lot of piece of mind. Had it for years....in Florida heat batteries do not last very long. One time stopped for gas and when I went to leave the battery was dead. so glad I had it then and other times.

I agree with not buying insurance for losses you can cover. So you can afford to pay the towing bill but do you know who to call at 1:am when you breakdown in CA or PA? It is insurance for finding reliable help, not the cost of paying for the help once you find it.

Exactly!
Just having someone to call, who has a network and can find someone to help you (possibly in the middle of nowhere), is well worth the cost all by itself in my opinion.

We discovered that Florida is much less expensive than Mid-Atlantic was for a Premier membership, so I imagine you would do well to switch.

AAA has helped me many times.
When I was younger and traveled a lot, I used the AAA TripTix, Free Map, and reservations services. I also used their travel agents to book several cruises. They did an excellent job.
In the last few years, as I have been less able to perform certain tasks, I upgraded my membership to Premier. I have actually had to use the 100 mile free towing since living in The Villages. That saved me a lot of money.
Remember, too, that you need not be the owner or the driver of the car that has a problem. Simply being a passenger gives coverage for the car.
I am very much in favor of AAA membership.

I still have the dealership plan until December but plan on renewing AAA Plus membership, that includes a 100 mile radius.
I always like the idea of, if I were to get stuck, I still might be within the 100 mile radius to get my car back to a repair shop, of my choice.
With getting maps for free and booking vacations, I think they offer a lot for $100? I'm guessing the annual membership fee, as I haven't had them in two years. The $100 is worth it, for one's peace of mind.
This should be a no brainer. IMHO

We have had AAA 100 mile plan and are pleased with it. Before we moved to TV we had AAA Mid-Atlantic. When we switched to AAA in TV the yearly cost went down over $20 a year if I recall correctly for the same coverage.

AAA has never let me down. Flats, dead batteries and some other matters, they have always come through and with people who show up and get the job done right!
