It depends on the condition and type of music.
Some 50's & 60's rock and roll, and some jazz can be valuable in good condition. Check out ebay for prices.
Almost all easy listening (Mantovani, Engelbert, Mitch Miller, etc) and soundtracks (Grease, Sat. Night Fever, Sound of Music etc) has little-to-no value and would probably be best disposed at a garage sale at 50 cents each or as a bundle dirt cheap.
No... that "First Family" LP by Vaughn Meader has no value.
If you could list a few of these it would be helpful.

Do you have any with this cover? Depending on the condition, it would be worth a good amount of money. Anywhere from $700 to $15,000.

If you have one with this cover, check to see if it is pasted on. If it is, don't try and peel it off yourself, the Butcher cover is underneath and is still worth a good amount.

This cover was released in the in 1977, 3 days later their airplane ran out of fuel and 6 people were killed including the lead singer.

The label soon changed the cover to this one. You may think the flames cover would be valuble, if you have a US pressing and is sealed or mint condition you might be worth $100. In the UK the flames cover never went out of print and I sold a few hundred in the 80's for just $10 each.

If you have any where the jacket and record are in mint condition or very good, go on eBay and checkout the prices. Remember you'll have to charge shipping, if someone willing to pay for Priority shipping for a $5 record? If you do sell, you'll need mailers, you can get them at this link.

Shipping for LPs can done for about $3.50 postage using Media Rate (which includes Tracking). You specify the postage in the ad and nobody seems to mind $4. Yes, they arrive intact and reasonable fast (usually within a week).

This guy is also pretty good for mailing boxes: threerb | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/sch/threerb/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=)

But, first things first... do you have anything worth the time and effort?

I'd donate the vinyl records to Good Will.
Perhaps they can make a few dollars on the records.
