Well, there will be plenty of discussion, I'm certain, about why this story has not been making more of the 24-hr news shows......but it's heartening to know that our system CAN actually work for the better at times!

Here is a copy of a post I made on this site on June 19th on the thread "Active Shooter Awareness Message for Citizens".

In 2011 there was about 900,000 concealed weapons permits in Florida. Since this Orlando shooting I have read it is now 1.8 million. That's double in just 5 years. With a population of 20 million, roughly one in every ten has a concealed weapon in Florida.

The problem with the Orlando shooting was it happened in a place that serves mainly alcohol, off limits to those who carry a concealed weapon. Had it happen at one of the squares, a regular restaurant or movie theater here in TV, I think the outcome would of been different. In fact, I always believe that's why we haven't had a mass shooting in Florida until this latest. In the past we've had mass shootings in states with strict gun laws such as California #1 and Connecticut #5.

I love it when they catch the criminals and they have to live with their consequences.

Not sure what this story has to do with much of anything. In SC, you had a hot head who wanted to shoot the guy he was arguing with but instead shot into a group of people (no one died). In Orlando, you had someone who planned to kill as many people as possible and did so in an area where concealed weapons are specifically prohibited. The SC story did not deserve national media attention, any more than a drive-by shooting in Miami merits a news blurb here.

SC had an ugly incident. Fortunately, someone who was legally carrying kept it from becoming a tragedy. The final outcome might have been a lot different had the bad guy been shot inside the bar if SC has similar laws to most states about CWC and drinking establishments.

I'd rather they didn't have to live with their consequences.

What about the horrific church shooting in Charlestown, SC?

What about the church shooting? Are you saying that there was someone there with a legal carry permit who did not use their weapon?

Bars, nightclubs, breeds idiots. So you have drunken idiots and drunken idiots with guns. Anybody watch Orlando news? shootings every night as elsewhere in every city. Now add the drugs in the mix and you drunken drugged out idiots. Shyt bound to happen. IMO the are few places guns should not be allowed. Bars/nightclubs should be at the top of the list. Once wacky weed become legal the next on list will be cocane, heroine, and meth. Once all of us 20 century born are gone and gen x in charge holy crap. The big flush! :beer3:

There are a lot of cities that have much more
violence than others on a given night.
And there are a lot of people doing drugs,
and drunk that are not sitting in bars and clubs,
but are out on the street amongst us.

Since the passing of the "shall issue" law, the crime rate in Florida has gone down by 30%.
