Your question is imprecise. Do you mean e-mail service or e-mail client (an interface into the service)? With the exception of potentially having to jump through some hoops to access gmail from China (if you happen to be going there anytime soon), gmail, as a service, is just fine and the price is right. If you are talking about an e-mail client, that is pretty much personal taste and there are lots to choose from. I wouldn't overthink this. A bigger issue is do you want to use POP or IMAP.

The attached link can give you some ideas, the pros and cons of each, etc.. Just ignore their top choice which is...gmail.

I am trying zoho. So far I like it. Business oriented, but they offer free personal email, too.

I kept PennTel Data when I moved from PA. Great company, have used them for 8 years and have had zero outages or issues. I use IMAP for my email and POP for my wife's and retrieve through Outlook. Take a look a ptd.net
