Looking for recommendations of good service at a reasonable price for internet and cable TV. Priorities: be able to stream movies from Netflix and surf the internet via computer and iPad with no interruptions. Currently have Comcast but it's $292 per month for internet and cable TV and I just think that's way too much. When I lived in TN, the same service was $130 per month. Thanks in advance for your recommendations (both good providers and providers to stay away from).

To get advice like this, you need to specify what village you live in. The providers have specific areas where they are available.

No disrespect aimed at you but this is pure greed and the reason why I have a chip on my shoulder towards all these service providers. $292 a month should include personal appearances by various headliners each month in your living room. I hope someone steps up to help you but they will need The Village you live in to do so. Best of Luck. I'm going to guesstimate the monthly charge should be under $100. I am shocked that they have the guts to charge $292, unbelievable.

We live in Lake Deaton and have the same question. Any feedback on Hughes Net for internet, pro or con?

I have DISH for my television service and CenturyLink for internet. On 441 across from Walmart is the Dish store. Talk to Jennifer Peters, (manager). Very nice and knowledgeable. 352.553.4921
DISH was running an advertisement a while back for the same price for three years. I believe it's about $70 or so top 200 programs.
CenturyLink is approximately $50 for internet.

As the person who posted this original thread, I wanted to follow-up to let you know I called Comcast to review my services and figure out how to decrease the monthly bill. Based on what I used (2 DVRs and a modem included), I did not change anything on my plan but Comcast gave me, as a "loyalty" discount, the special plan pricing I was offered when I joined. This dropped my monthly services by $47 per month (just for asking!). So, we're keeping internet, TV (digital preferred package with Starz, HD, On Demand, and HBO), and a home phone with voice mail. We are going to save an additional $10 per month when I install our own modem vs. renting it from Comcast. This pricing plan will be in effect for 2 years they said, so I'll call them in 2 years to get whatever the new pricing is. I still think it's too much but it's reliable service and I'm happy they threw me a bone for the $47 per month discount.

Almost all of them do when one threatens to cancel their service.
I find it ironic they give deals to new customers and don't reward existing or long time customers.

I think we are paying Comcast $131 per month with one DVR box, 4 other Comcast boxes, a modem rental plus the internet. Can't believe how much they are charging you.

I have been with CenturyLink for a while and I don't have to threaten to leave to get a good price. $35/month for internet (40 megabits/sec) via fiber optics to the house. Their service has been very reliable ( and I have had broadband for 20 years ).

The CenturyLink God must be well pleased with you. He will only deliver 10 mbps to me and not by fiber optics.

I live in the southern part of The Villages where they ran fiber optics to every house. It sounds like you are in a northern section that has the older DSL service over copper wires. With DSL, the bandwidth is a function of your distance from a switching station. I assume they will eventually run fiber in your neighborhood??

I always think of our area as being south but now we're more in the middle, I guess. Don't know when or if we'll ever have fiber optic cable.
