We have been coming to the Villages on I-95 to Jacksonville, to I-10, and then coming down 301. 301 seems to be a long ride.
Has anyone come down I-95 all the way to Daytona, then taken I-4 to Deland, and then cut over west to TV? We were wondering if that might be a better way.

There has been many previous posts on how to get to TV from I-95. Do a search on I-95.

We come through the Ocala National FOrest way. Nice relaxed drive.
Ends up on 42 before TV.

either 95 to 10 to 301 down or 95 south to 40, then come in the back way down 19 and 42 bout same deal. If you come down 301 watch out for Waldo Willie...
Its just a matter of choice. Sit back relax, put on the seat belt and enjoy the ride.

If I were going that direction I would go this way. Perhaps longer and perhaps quicker. Easier on the mind and less frustrating.
I-95 to Rt-40 in Ormond Beach -- or -- get off I-95 earlier at Road 100 to Bunnell and 11 South to Rt-40
Stay on 40 West until you pass over the St. Johns River at Astor
About a 1 2 miles past Astor go left onto 445A toward Alexander Springs
Take 445A about mile & turn left onto 445
Stay on 445 (through National Forest you will think you are in the middle of nowhere) until it dead-ends at 19
Turn left onto 19 and go about 5 miles to light at SR-42
Turn right onto 42 and take 42 to 25 at Weirsdale
Turn left onto 25 and take to Griffin Ave to 441/27 This intersection is at
La Plaza Grande Shopping Center

From my house in Belleair to the intersection of US 301 and I 10 is 100 miles and two hours. If you elect to go around Ocala by using I 75 and getting on US 301 above Ocala you will add about six miles but the time is about the same.
I have made this trip countless times and I have tried alternatives but this is my preference.
Speed limits are clearly marked and there is zero tolerance. If you exceed the limit you will stand out like a sore thumb. I just set my cruise control on 45 and relax.
Having family in St. Augustine I use the routing Indy-Guy suggests for trips there.

The route thru the Ocala Nat. Forest is very nice however there is no cell phone coverage and no services for miles, not a very good choice after dark.

I have had the occasion to drive through The Forest after dark and it is nerve wracking considering the possibility of deer and bear hits.

We love to take the "scenic" route through the Forest. But we never drive after dark. Anywhere. I have an absolute horror about hitting animals.
