Scallop Hunting

Went scallop hunting for the first time ever today. Put in at Fort Island on the end of highway 44 and went North up the coast past the Crystal River nuclear power plant. Snorkeled through the tall shoreline grasses, but didn't get a single scallop.
Can someone tell me where to go next time?
