I would like to have seen some rhetoric that we (America) are committed to taking care of America first....and if that means some adjustment in foreign buying practices to make it work...why not? With almost NO discussion, the right thing to do for America is being "watered down"....see the article below:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article5655115.ece

And so the agent of change has already adopted the practice of backing off if some one squeals. And from the UK no less. What is in the cards when the tougher nuts in the crowd start poking at him?

You know what happens when one tries to please everybody? The original intent to please (USA first) can not happen.

Change in administration....yes. Change in politics....hardly!!!!
Politics as usual. Yes I know we have to get along with EVERYBODY. But it would be nice to send a message we are intent with fixing the problems at home.....FIRST!!!!!!!!!:(

Perhaps you should spend a little more time researching issues before you post. Yesterday, Mitch McConnell, the top Republican in the Senate, said, "I don't think we ought to use a measure, that is supposed to be timely, temporary, and targeted to set off trade wars when the entire world is experiencing a downturn in the economy." McConnell, when specifically asked if the buy American clause should be stripped from the stimulus plan, said yes, it should be stripped.

It seems somewhat strange that when you google "buy American stimulus plan" the first two topics you get reference McConnell and his comments regarding stripping the plan of the buy American requirement. Further down you get the UK article you referenced. I guess you somehow merely "overlooked" the McConnell references.

Nothing like a "fair and balanced" post!

The days of America's "It's All About Me" attitude is over. We just can't remain on the same road if this country is to survive. Many people want a quick fix and just for us it seems. This economy is not going to work that way. It is still my belief that President Obama looks at the "big picture" and not just "what have you done for me lately." The 1950's are over folks. The Cleaver family has lost their home and are applying for food stamps. Wake up! This is bigger than "just us."

Just as a reminder, the USA has given countries other than ours more money, more assistance, more health care, more freedom, more technology, more food, more lives given, and more everything than any other nation on earth and continues to do so to this very day. I think the American people have been anything other than it's all about me with their tax dollars including our sons and daughters who fight for freedom every day. I find it amazing that anyone would think otherwise.

We are still a sovereign nation and any President that doesn't look out for his or her own country FIRST and FOREMOST is a traitor in my book.

The whole UN / globalist attitude we have going today is just a bunch of socialist liberal hog wash and will do nothing but destroy our nation and that's the very road Obama and the democrats are is taking us down.

The problem is, what got Obama elected are the one's that ask "what have you done for me lately." Not the ones who ask what can I do for my country or even what can I do for myself.

The issue is it was stated as a way to stimulate jobs. It was the promise. Now, as the experts (McConnell, et al) are letting the novice (Obama) know...hey man your forgetting the political implications...you can't do that.
Some how countries like Japan and China are able to dictate what will or will not be sold or brought into their country and some how the rest of the world grumbles and go about their business.
There is absolutely no reason to not encourage (or enforce) buying American.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting America first.
Some of us are over the rest of the world standing at our door step with their hand out.....and the same will never put that hand in their pocket when America needs something.
My position...very simple...NON PARTISAN...it is time for the USA to stop being the benefactor of the rest of the world...when we have these so called major economic issues at home.
As long as we continue to be reluctant to let the rest of the world know we are serious about ourselves first...then they will continue to chuckle as they walk over, past or around us as they see fit.
It is nice be be worldly and helpful and all that other non sense that does not put a dollar in our pockets at a time when ALL, both parties are chanting every day about how bad it is....how much worse it is going to get....the post office is about to go belly up (their hand is out), prices of everything we need to survive are going up...many of you talk about how we just willy nilly print money to solve problems...
It is time to worry about the USA first and when we have the time and the money we can worry about the others.
Let the rest of the world grumble about us like we do about Japan and China....they will get over it. And when (if) our economy improves, they will benefit from it.
Until then.....they get in line behind us.
I do fully realize that I have wasted all these key strokes because the politics of our government are far more oriented to the needs of OTHER THAN WE THE PEOPLE.... to expect anything different to happen.

For me but American...if you don't have a job or can't pay your mortgage or can't buy food for the table....eat your imports!!!

C24.....to make the statement you made..."It is still my belief that President Obama looks at the "big picture" and not just "what have you done for me lately." You must have information to back that up....please share it with us and what exactly do you mean ????

I am looking for every silver lining I can find and when you read his stimulus bill (albeit not yet passed) I find very little, but you must..please share !!!
