Anyone see the drag race on 466 today? I got to see it from the behind. In the left lane, from somewhere in Ohio...a Chrysler minivan doing 30, no 31, no 29 miles per hour. In the right lane from Sumter County, Florida...a BMW Z4 doing 31, no 32, side by side, a battle for 2, 3 4+ miles wait topping 34 mph!! A winner!!:eclipsee_gold_cup:
Seriously, if you want to drive below the speed limit, knock yourself out. But please, move over and let those of us who would like to maybe brush up against the speed limit get by. I know, alot of us are retired, so no rush. I'd love to be in that place. But, some of us are out there working to provide services to those that planned their retirement fund better and can enjoy a low speed drag race with a BMW.
Thanks in advance.

I totally agree music but if you are going to stay here you are going to have to learn to be patient, you are out numbered and nothing you can do will change it.....just go with the flow which at times is a little slow...GN

I know I will get into trouble but when the birds go home the traffic pattern is better. Slow does move right.

:throwtomatoes: I hate to say it, but that mini-van could have been me!! I drive a little slower on 466 because so many cars just pull out without looking...and it is a little scary. I don't care what age the driver is....it is scary out there! From the teenagers to the oldest senior....
SO...I slow down and watch carefully. I know what the speed limit is...but I would rather be home in one piece...;)

Some drivers get in the left hand lane at Laurel Manor on Buena Vista south.....because they want to make a left turn at Lake Sumter landing.:cus:

Musicman.. where are you from? EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY moves slower down south. I remember a visit to McDonald's one day. The lines were outrageous except for one cashier who was crazy speedy! I jumped into her line and asked where she was from. Low and behold.. she was from my hometown in NJ!!! She said the snail pace in Florida was driving her nuts. So.. I guess that's something we will all have to learn when we re-locate.. slow down, take time to smell the palm trees..LOL...and relax!

If people driving slow today is your biggest complaint, then it is a beautiful day in The Villages

I dont think it is a question of driving slow, more like Drivers Etiquette. I see the same thing, but not only in the car, but also on my bike. Like the other day traveling on 301 from Wildwood to Cr-466 heading to the house. Car with a Michigan Plate doing 35 up 301. traffic lined up behind Them with me right behind them. We get to where it goes 4 lane before you get to 466 and by the way where the speed limit drops to 45 FROM 55. I go to pass them and they take off. I rode right beside them and they got up to 65 trying to get ahead of me to make a right turn on 466. I did let them over. Still cant figure that one out. Same thing on 466,, 466a,,, even on Morse and BV. Heck dont even mention coming to a Rotary,, or round-a-bout. That is a whole nother story that has already seen enought post.
The bad thing was last weekend, going from BV torward Morse on 466, I watched a street legal golf cart pass a car. Now talk about akward. Heck the golf cart had a line of traffic following it. Nothing like a golf cart as your front door.
I know just my thoughts.

When my Dad first moved to Florida, still driving with his Ohio plates, I guess he was moving a little slow, and a local in a pick-up scooted around him, squealing his tires, and when he got next to us he helled, "Move over you yankee a$$-hole!!!!"
My Dad looked at me and said, "you know, I just hate it when they call me a Yankee."

Ditto! (Red Sox fan:laugh::laugh:)

Yankee means Northerner, World Champions means NY Yankees
OK, how many have the Sox won?

A Yankee is a northerner who visits the sunny south. :pepper2:
A Damn-Yankee is a northerner who stays. :cus:

I know what a Yankee means but i refuse to be associated with those bums who haven't won a title this century. Oh yeah the Sox have won 2 in that time I almost forgot!
Some comedian has a joke about how the accents change as you drive south until you pass the Florida Panhandle then all of a sudden you're back in Michigan. Let's face it, Central Fla is mostly 'Yankee'.

Hey, I'm fine with folks driving a little slow. I just get frustrated when I get behind these low speed drag races. All I'm saying is just move it over.
And I definitely know what you mean about 466. The sheriff was interviewed several weeks ago in the Daily Sun and stated that the biggest traffic problem in TV is excessive speed. I heartily DISagree. I rarely see much speeding. What I see as the worst issues are:
1) Red light runners including those folks that do the "rolling" right on red. (Why do they always roll through in front of me going the speed limit and they drive SLOW).
2) Stop sign runners.
3) Green light STOPPERS. You know, the one's who stop at a green light because they're afraid of #1.
4) Golf carts drivers and pedestrians that completely ignore all traffic laws/signs. I don't understand the pedestrian that just steps into the street without looking and assumes that they are seen by the car driver. I know, in Florida, pedestrians have the right of way, but they also have to follow traffic signals. And, as a pedestrian, you may have the right of way and feel that car should stop for you because you are in the right, but being right doesn't make you any less dead when that car rolls over you! Same with a golf cart. In the battle of SUV vs. ParCar, my bet is on the SUV.
I heard a guy say that TV should change their slogan for "Friendliest Hometown" to "Who has the right of way? I DO!"

Mel - good math.
I got some better math for you 40%. They have won 2 of the 5 since 2004!;)
The rest is just history.

Russ,
It doesn't matter who has won the most - it's when was the last time?

You are correct as always, the Red Sox are a Dynasty.

How did this ever get to this??? I wish i could be a dynasty by winning 2 out of a 100. That is a feat. If the Sox dont win another one for 100 more years will they still be a dynasty?

I think it is just courtesy to move over into the right lane if you observe someone going faster who wants to pass on the left. I'll also add one more item to your list of traffic issues: the people who don't know how to use the roundabouts. I notice this has been debated ad nauseum in previous posts, but it still is a problem.

This post isn't about slow drivers. Quite the contrary!!
Beware, last night around 10pm, 2 pick up trucks were truly drag racing heading north going over the bridge at Lake Sumter. I was never so frightened as you know that is a little curvy and bumpy section of the bridge. One hiccup, and I would have been history. These guys were flying about 50+mph, (I'm not exactly sure of the speed and I don't want to exaggerate but it was damn fast). My passengers were astounded because we've never seen anything like this in TV. Where are the cops when you need them..

Wow Kathie...on the bridge...that could have been a big mess!!!!!!
I have to comment on the pedestrians here in TV, especially in the shopping plaza's.
Yesterday I was going through the parking lot by the Publix, Belks etc in Plaza Grande. I stopped at the first stop sign, 3 people with carts crossed, I stopped at the second, no pedestrians in sight ,so I moved on. Out of the last door at Publix's comes a man and a woman, pushing a cart at warp speed. There is a column beside the door so you don't see anyone exiting until they come out from under the portico and from behind the column. They charged right out in the roadway in front of me, without looking. When he realized I was rolling he starting yelling at me to slow down. I stopped and couldn't resist opening my window to ask if he felt 5 mph's was speeding...and further suggested they looked before crossing. He shook his fist at me ...uttered a few f-words and continued crossing ,all the while yelling at me. His companion had her head down and wouldn't look at me..... she probably experiences a lot of that anger.
Anyway ...moral of the story watch out for pedestrians...even when you are obeying all the rules.:cus:

I have to agree when the snowbirds leave the traffic fits back into a regular pattern.
I remember reading somewhere that slow drivers are as dangerous as, fast drivers:shrug::shrug:
Please if you are driving slow, that's great, but move to the right lane and allow those who wish to dance with the speed limit do so.
