Thanks for asking. First off Mookie is a 14 month old Belgian Malinois. He was being trained to work with border patrol in Texas but was found to have too sweet of a personality for the job.He has some training and is very good on leash. In fact if either my wife are walking him and another dog or jogger or bicycle goes by we put him in the sit position and he stays there until they pass. Yesterday we had him neutered and he's doing good. Once he is fully recovered we will be taking him for some more extensive training. Although Bonyta will live forever in our hearts we've found there is plenty of room for our new guy also!!:mademyday:

Yes he is beautiful. Thanks I can understand your thinking he was a shepherd but he's a Belgian Malinois.

Mookie has a great story (and a great name!), and now a great home. I still get heart-tugs over our 20-year-old cat who died in 1990. Every single pet takes a little piece of you with it. But we've always found room for the next one, who actually helps redirect our sense of loss.

Sometimes it's a case of "I'm going to strangle this puppy/kitten/bird/whatever before he reaches age one!" But I personally believe in the healing benefits of getting a new pet sooner rather than later.

Very nice story. We waited five days to get Beau but it was more like five years to get Sport.

Hope your will bring him to Doggie Doo Run Run some time. There are some very nice big dogs there and some small dogs who think they are very big dogs.

Mookie is a Beautiful Dog. Hope you have many years of fun. We've been dogless since 2009, my wife wants a poodle, but they are impossible to find unless you have a big checkbook.

CF - your last paragraph is so accurate. Although the new pet can't and won't replace the old pet, they help heal the loss and renew the joy in your household.

:agree: Molly, the queen cat of suburban Chicago, has been greeting me at the door every day for the past 3 years just as Magic the wonder cat did for the previous 15 years.

I firmly believe pets rescue their human guardians more than we rescue them.

There are plenty of poodles available through rescue groups. This site alone lists 19 poodles and poodle mixes:

[URL="http://poodle.rescueme.org/Florida"]

The average price of these dogs is $200, new babies are $400. That isn't exhorbitant. Perhaps you are referring to dogs from breeders?

Rescue groups seem to be expensive ($200-$500) until you consider the options. We got our pug from Animal Control for an adoption fee of $40. However, he needed dental work which cost us over $1,000. In the end, it would have been less costly to adopt from a pug rescue group. Of course, we love our little Frankie to pieces and don't regret the costs.

$200 is a good price for a rescued dog. A reputable rescue will makes sure the dog has all it's shots, will spay/neuter it if it isn't already, will do dental work, and will take care of any known health issues. I got a free dog once and I also got a dog for $70. Let me tell you the vet bills to get those dogs fixed, vetted, and dental work taken care was way, way more than $200. The one dog I had almost $2,000 in her in just a few months. So $200 is really a great deal unless you have a good friend or relative who is a vet.
