Happy Birthday to all the Feb 8th celebrants.

Sidney Lanier was actually born on Feb 3, 1842 .... so, that makes him 167 years old. You're lookin' mighty good for your age, Sid!!!! A poet, musician, and scholar for whom Lake Lanier, outside of Atlanta, is named. We are honored to be in your presence.

07, you would appreciate the card vetman and I gave Sid. It says that a study was conducted and the results did, indeed, prove that dirt was older!

A yell out to GG's daughter for a very Happy Birthday.

Sorry, guys, don't get on TOTV very often and am now first seeing your good wishes. Many thanks! A friend (a couple years younger than I) told me he stopped counting a while back. I'll NEVER stop counting; I just love seeing the numbers go up when considering the alternative....

Yes, Chels & Vetman: OLDER THAN DIRT!!! '-)

07, you caught on to 'Sidney Lanier'.... Not only the lake but at least one elementary school and other public facilities are named after this significant nineteenth-century American novelist and poet.

Over thirty years ago we took the kids and camped our way from upstate New York to south Florida. When we found ourselves in a campground in 'Lanier Territory' by the Marshes of Glynn in Georgia, I signed in at the campground as 'Sidney Lanier.' The owner took my registration card and copied 'my' name into his book when assigning a camping spot and didn't bat an eye.

After that, at every campground I signed in with a name historically famous from the area, and no one picked up on it. When we were back in Virginia I used 'Thomas Jefferson,' with no response. I probably should have tried 'George Washington'....

And believe it or not, the produce seller at the farm on the north side of CR-466 between Morse and Rolling Acres IS a Lanier descended from the Georgia Laniers (including Sidney), and when I asked him about his famous ancestor, he looked at me as though I were loosely wrapped, telling me, 'You know more about mah family than Ah do!'

Ah life....
