We are contemplating retiring to The Villages. Are the residents welcoming?
We are hoping to make many new friends.

Thank you for your time.

Cheryl Ann,

I have lived all over this great country (and overseas) and I have never seen a more welcoming bunch of folks as we have heer in The Villages. Sure, there are the obligatory 10% that are a..h....s, but most are glad to meet new neighbors. Not to worry, come on down!:pepper2::pepper2:

Judge for yourselves - sign up for a Lifestyles Visit, come visit for a week or so, and decide for yourself. I think it will be a favorable decision for TV.

Welcome to you Cheryl Ann! I am not even going to try to tell you how wonderful this place is and how warm and caring the residents are here. You will get hugged, waved at, smiled at, invited, kidded, patted and accepted warmly wherever you go. You will hear accents from all over the country except from the people from Ohio who have NO accent at all. You will learn new games called Pickleball and Hand and Foot and have the opportunity to learn how to drive a golf cart at warp speeds. You will go two times or three maybe around a traffic circle before you figure out that Odell just turned into BaileyTrail. You will realize that Hadley is the best Village of all, but to be fair all of the others are very very close.

Welcome. But only tell your friends who are not grumpy. The Villagers don't like grumpy people.

We bought here in June, a new patio villa in Hemingway. While part timers for now, I'd have to say that everyone we've met has been remarkably friendly.
Our neighbors are fantastic - period.

Maybe it's the kool-aid, or the lower stress in being retired, or whatever, doesn't really matter. TV is not perfect, but it's far and away the best I've seen in my life.

My husband and I came down in November. After two days, we were ready to move. I just asked my husband yesterday, "What do you like most about the Villages?", The people.
We live on five acres in the woods and our fear was the homes being close. But in the stage of our life, it just doesn't matter.

Cheryl, my husband and I moved here a year ago November from Illinois and the first couple of months I felt like a fish out of water. But I am amazed at the dear, lifelong friends we have meet here. Actually more than Illinois! In our urban area, everything and people were all spread out. And even though The Villages is large, it still gives you a small town community feeling. We joined different clubs and activities, I found this forum, and in no time our social calendar was overflowing.

The Villages is truly America's Friendliest Hometown. I spent my life in advertising, and I can tell you, that's the perfect slogan for The Villages.
You will not be disappointed. It's really hard to describe. :welcome:

Been here since the beginning of December. Have been welcomed by everyone we meet. Still getting used to how nice people are. It wasn't like that where I came from

We moved here in Oct 2007---have wonderful neighbors who welcomed us with open arms. My sister and her husband were just here for two days--took them over to the square on Saturday--they were impressed at the ease in which conversation starts between "strangers." They ended up talking to numerous people --one of which had a daughter who lived in their town--owned a restaurant and they are getting a free dinner when they get back home, compliments of the person they met. I am sure there are some here who are not friendly but we have not crossed paths with them as yet. Come on down and see for yourselves--don't think you will be disappointed.

I agree whole heartedly with Graciegirl.:agree:..
I'd also like to add I came to TV to rent for three months to see if the lifestyle was for me and I bought a house in three WEEKS!!! I close on 2/23 and I can't wait to be considered a real Villager!! Do yourself a favor and do a lifestyle preview - you'll never regret it!

We visited a few times just for the day and came back and did a lifestyle preview for a week. We loved it and people were friendly and welcoming to us. We would be there now but we still have a house to sell but once we do we will head to The Villages.

Just like mikark, we did a Lifestyle visit and now are desperate to sell our house so we can come down to TV and start enjoying all that it has to offer. Starting with the friendly people. I can tell you that I have never met any of my friends on this site, but I consdier them all to be dear dear friends. I would never have believed that I could feel so comfortable and at ease as I do with all my friends on TOTV. And one of these glorioius days I'll be able to hug them in person!

My husband & i visited TV. We were impressed with the friendly people and everything offered. We were so pleased, we returned home and within 3 days listed our house for sale. Now we are just waiting...... we were very impressed!!! We are trying to decide if we want a villa or house.

Welcome Cheryl Ann:welcome:

My husband and I came for a three day lifestyle visit last October with the intentions of checking out TV as a possible snowbird rental situation. All I can tell you now is that we are placing our house on the market tomorrow and will move to The Villages permanently once our house has sold.

Why? Two words: THE PEOPLE.

Honestly the houses are beautiful and compared to California they are incredibly affordable, but a house means nothing if you don't have relationships. So far the people we have met in The Villages have welcomed us with open arms.

I agree with other posters you should come for a lifestyle visit and decide for yourself. Good Luck with your decision.

Hey Deb,

Nice to hear from you as I sit here with my morning coffee :mornincoffee:

What many of you do not know is that when my husband Joe and I were down in TV choosing our lot we watched the neighbors move into their new house. We decided to go over and be the first people to ring their doorbell. Deb and Ed opened the front door and welcomed us with open arms. During our conversation we discovered that not only were both couples from California, but we only lived two cities away from each other!!! :coolsmiley:

That is a brief synopsis of our story I'm sure Deb and Ed will fill the rest of you in on our story during your monthly Crispers meeting.

Cheryl Ann I do apologize for hijacking your thread!

Hi Graciegirl
We will be sure to let you know when we will be back to TV. We are really anxious, still trying to figure out what type of housing suits us best. Want to downsize, but unsure if we want a 2 car garage or go for the 1 car and golf cart size. We do know it's not if we move to TV's, it's when we move!!! We loved it!!! Any words of wisdom???
