On TV's commercial web page they claim that 80% of residential trips are within TV. With restaurants, recreation, entertainment, shopping, professional services, banking, health care, a hospital, and churches golf-cart accessable, what is missing that you would like to have available?

When you get in your car and leave campus, where do you go and why?

There are only two things that we can think of that would take us outside of TV at the moment.

One is Michaels which is in nearby Ocala. JoAnns is here now but doesn't have the art supplies, canvases and paints that I need.

The other is Shands hospital at the University in Gainesville. I would trust the local hospitals for most things, but I am a hospital snob, and if we needed open heart surgery or brain surgery or oncology, I would go to Gainesville or back to Cincinnati.

Places we go off campus: Clothes shopping - There are shopping opportunities around TV, but I also go to Orlando. Sporting goods - no good place to buy specialty sports footware. It would be nice to have a Dicks Sporting Goods in the vicinity. The beach. Broadway shows - Orlando (there are shows at the Savannah Center, but they are not as good as the real thing). Golf - when the courses get filled up within TV, we go to outside golf courses occasionally to golf. Furniture - Southern Lifestyles has a monopoly in TV, and outside furniture stores offer more variety and generally cheaper merchandise.

I stayed in Kissimmee for a couple of months in 1992 and had a season pass to WDW. My wife and I are Disney fans. Not Disney nuts, but fans. We have a friend who is a cast member.

Just curious how much a season pass to WDW is. My wife and I are fans as well and plan to do this as soon as we settle in TV.

Yes. How much is a season pass for Florida residents these days? Is there a bus that goes from TV to WDW?

I'd love a couple of dog parks within TV. The only big dog park is a private one, outside the bubble (Doggie Doo Run Run). I pay a monthly fee and drive there every day. Obviously not golf cart accessible.

There is a small dog park in TV but it is east of 441. Quite far away for people in West Villages.

The by-laws in TV allow two dogs per household. But the Developer hasn't made any provisions for them. So it can cause a lot of stress for non dog owners as well as owners. Especially those on corner lots. But I digress. I'm NOT trying to start that discussion again .. we've had it many, many times. ;)

I really miss getting good fresh and juicy mangos. In SoCal they were the best!! I bought some here at Sweetbay's and Fresh Market only to be very disappointed. I'm also not too please with the selection of fresh fruit other than citrus. Guess I was spoiled in LA. But, I'm in the villages!!! That makes up for it..:pepper2:

For those who asked how much a Florida season Walt Disney World pass is:

I paid $382.34 in October for one. My pass has NO blackout dates and is a park-hopper (I can go to as many parks as I want in day). The $12.00 per day/park is also covered by the pass. Considering a single day pay park hopper is >$100 and parking is $12/ day it doesn't take very many trips to make it worth it. I have been 6 days since October so I have more than paid for mine and the next 9 months admission and parking is free!!

Sorry if I've highjacked this thread but 2 people here asked for the info so I wanted to post it---Colleen

We go outside TV for a few restaurants and shopping in Orlando is wonderful. As well as the Disney attractions. Also, to Tampa for the Hard Rock Casino!
We did go to Ocala for Sam's Club, but now TV has it's own. Everything just keeps getting better and better!

ME: Skyline Chili.

Chipotle Mexican (kinda like Moe's but better...and they don't yell at you when you come in..."Welcome to Moe's!")

Don Pablo's Mexican.

The beach.

A hobby shop/art supply type store.

A good brew pub.

MY WIFE: Sak's, Neiman's, and other high end shopping.

We have season passes to Disney. Like someone else said, we're not fanatics, but we enjoy it. It makes us get out of town once in a while to see the "real" world.

Most other things we just do around TV.

My wish list would include a Costco and an Apple Computer store. Orlando is just too far away for shopping. Also a good butcher shop....

I'm sure you all miss those back home haunts but I think the gist of the thread was supposed to be:

What do you need to go off the reservation for. In other words drive off for.

Not all the way back north:laugh:

Steinmart is a beautifully merchandised version of a TJMaxx-like store. It carries mens and womens clothing, including womens sizes, home accessories including small furniture pieces, shoes, fashion accessories, costume jewelry, and seasonal items. I am in awe of their buyers ability to find what must be overuns, and other higher middle end (?) merchandise that is always presented beautifully and at GREAT prices.

I thought Steinmart was a national chain.

First and foremost ............. a Performing Arts Center NOT owned or run by TV.
Possibly a "true" computer type store like Comp USA. We had a couple in Orlando.
A real honest-to-goodness public library with all services available.
A full service post-office of course.
On the "lighter side" (It'll never happen), a White Castle.

I visit the malls in Orlando for Talbots, Sephora, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel. Sometimes I just order via catalog, but I like shopping in the actual stores. In the Orlando area we also like Chicago Uno's, Mimi's Cafe and other restaurants in the area.

As I have mentioned many times before I would so love if there was a great Sushi restaurant here in TV.

Russ, good buddy....

I would drive off the reservation for a Whole Foods Market in Orlando any day. I would also drive my team of horses to the nearest Costco , also in Orlando, instead of Sam's. As for a good restaurant, I would head to Winter Park for P.F. Changs.

As for Trader Joe's...Atlanta is a little too far for a day trip.

Q. What can't you get in TV that you would like to have available?

A. A parking space near Market Square in LSL on weekend evening.

From what I can see, it's "create your own" in LSL. There are always cars/carts creating spaces in the lot behind the new redsauce restaurant. Why, just the other day, a fine gentleman nearly ran me over with his golf cart because he was driving on the sidewalk next to the canal to create a space in the grass (it's a shame that he was damaging the beautiful landscaping in the area). When I mentioned to him that he was driving on the SIDEWALK, he gave me a friendly wave (though he seemed to have trouble using all but the middle finger). He also made some comments suggesting that my buttocks are very intelligent, that I have an intimate relationship with my mother and that my mother's marital status at my birth may have been questionable.:faint:

I have never been to LSL and not been able to find a legitimate space. Yes, it is sometimes all the way back by the bank drive-thru, but there is a space. But, by the time I hoof it to the square, I'm beat!

Oh in addition to a sushi restuarant, and a Steinmart, I almost forgot, a good Indian restuarant. That's it for me, I don't want to be greedy. I just want to be there!
