Bringing down our smart car, from Michigan. Who did you use to transport and pros and cons. Did you put any items in the car when it shipped?

Bruce Ice, ICEMAN is a good mover, has a good van, yes you can load the car. He is in the paper, lives in Tavares.

Sorry, cannot help with long haul, we brought 3 cars and a truck down on the AutoTrain, cheaper then hauler, but Lorton, VA is a distance from Michigan.

We used uship.com. post your item and get bids to move. Picked up on Sat del on Monday in Indiana. Moved on open flatbed trailer.

I forgot to mention, we did bring one car down with the furniture (covered moving van), United Van Lines, went very well but very costly, $1300 if a recall correctly.

Bruce Ice moved us from West Coast, that is a considerable distance, just trying to help.

Just remember you usually get what you pay for. Stay away from an open trailer as a lot of debris can be kicked up to damage your car from Michigan to Florida.

Yes, it was going to be $1200 extra to load my sedan into the moving van and bring it down from Michigan (United or Mayflower, I forget which). I drove it down instead.
I have checked auto transporters for our '67 Mustang from Michigan, and very pricey. It's still in MI.
But there was another thread on this topic within the last couple of years. OP might do a search for it.

I did a search for auto transport and came up with several threads, including my own post about the Mustang, which was $1900 enclosed. But that was from MI to CA, for 2200 miles. Not applicable to you, but the name of the company is New World Auto Transport.

Reliable Carriers.
They are not cheap, but they take good care of "your baby."

Ever watch "shipping wars" om HGTV? They are the guys you hire. I wouldn't trust them to move a rock without damage.
If you drive it down, you still at least one night lodging, meals and (according to AAA) $0.50 a mile.

OK one more time. We moved from the West Coast, that is about 3000+ miles, that is a considerable distance.
We are not a relative of Bruce just had a good experience with him, Bruce Ice, Iceman Movers is local, is in the papers, he did a good job, he has a 40 foot totally enclosed van, he does what you want, try it out, no connection with him ourselves, just satisfied with his professionalism. bbbbbb

We used UShip. Very reasonable, just moved from Michigan. We moved our household belongings and Harley Trike all in and enclosed trailer for $1600. Shipper was licensed, bonded and insured.

Thanks, but it's a smart car, good for in town, too small for road trip. It's shorter than our golf cart.

Thanks for all the responses. Used past posts with little response. Maybe companies are no longer in business. Did call, and email iceman several times but no response. The quotes I did receive from online companies, were over $1500. (1/3 of cars worth). Some companies were hostile that I would not ship immediately, and if i didn't send car now my bill would double. Companies did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling. So for this year I will keep up north.

We used UShip to move from Michigan to Florida. Very affordable and movers are licensed, bonded and insured. You can select if you want auto on an enclosed or open trailer.

CFrance, Ours was a '66 Fastback Mustang, and it had to be in a covered van.

I've shipped 3 cars from Los Angeles to The Villages, one was a classic 1960's car that I deemed should go into a covered trailer. The others went into an open trailer and there were no problems at all with any damage done to them in transporting.
I used SunCoast Transport but you don't need to use them, but I'm quoting below a paragraph from their documents as to how transporting cars works in a system. I hope you find this helpful.
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND READ THIS MESSAGE ABOUT THE VEHICLE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY
When you book your vehicle with a company, your car is posted on the National Board (vehicle transportation network for U.S) which is where the carriers go to to put their loads together. It isn’t possible to contact a direct hauler as they only deal with what is on the Board. In other words it doesn’t matter which company you set up with as they will do the exact same thing that any other company will do. The step up you need is having a company that can educate you on how vehicle transportation is done in the U.S., instead of telling you what you want to hear to generate more business. We at Suncoast believe that an educated customer is best then just another client that needs transport. "

I ran into the exact same information when I was looking to ship the Mustang. Since we were looking at furniture movers, we told them if they wanted out business, they had to take the car also. United Van Lines was the one that worked with us..

Do you have a grandchild or niece/nephew who would enjoy a road trip? could be a win win. An adventure for them and a visit for you.
