I know that a large number of German-Americans live in TV and there is a German-American Club. What does the club do? I have enjoyed the Alpen Diamanten's many times here in the frozen north and understand that they perform for German-American functions at TV. I guess I am simply asking how much German-American activity can I find at the TV? I'm kind of addicted to good German music and dancing and wonder what's shaking. :beer3:

Get your dirndl or lederhosen ready. We are about to join too. Our friends belong and they had a luau last Saturday. (??) Our friends play in golf scrambles, march in the Oktoberfest parade, and I know that they have a fancy dance at the Savannah Center on New Years Eve. I am looking forward to all that Gemutlikeit. (I think I spelled it wrong) Memason?? Please correct my spelling.

There are two German clubs in TV; one is the Deutscher Club and the other is the German/American Club. I can't speak about the Deutscher Club as we belong to the G/A Club. They are very active all year long, have many dances...The Oktoberfest, the Schlachfest, the May Fest, the Luau, etc. The golf scrambles are once a month from May through Sept. They go on an annual bus trip to Castleberry for their celebration. They participate in the TV Oktoberfest parade and the Christmas parade. Lots of fun all year long.

I am definitely interested. My second language is German and as a child, we always attended German/American stuff with the oooom pah pah as our entertainment. I would love to get together with German people and keep the fluidity of the language. No, I don't do the parade thing..but I like watching. Prosit! - hey..and my specialty meal is Roladen with a good red cabbage and panni dumplings or mashed potatoes. mmm..yum yum... :beer3:

I am 100% Irish but took 4 years of German in High School...still remember a little of it. As long as there is an Octoberfest I think this would be a great club to join. When we moved to Raleigh NC in 1992, they didn't have many Irish-Catholics living here. They had a St Patrick's Day parade downtown and since there was only one bagpipe band in the whole area and very few Irish, they had to fill the parade with something. I remember the German oom pah band marching in the St Patrick's Day parade. Having grown up in upstate NY, that was a new one for me in a St Paddy's Day parade !

Wilkommen! Hier is viel los. (Welcome, there is a lot going on here) Having been a club member for some 10 years, while also being active in many other clubs including some of the great Irish and Celtic clubs here, I can honestly say that the German American Club may well be the most active of all the "nationalities" clubs. Over the years I would say they average about 2 events a month and have a number of really nice big parties from last week's Luau to an absolutely outrageous Schlachtfest that is both rollicking fun and a sumptious treat. If you want to enjoy or learn more about your heritage, relive your German experiences or simply have an interest in "res teutones" (things German) you will have a blast. Their Villages renowned Schatzis perform for the club and many other Villages events. Make sure to bring your Bier and Bierstein as well as your dancing shoes you will need both. Sad to say that the fabulous Alpen Diamanten are now retired and Saturday was their last appearence performing here. They intend to come back regularly as member/guests but their performing days have ended. They got a well-deserved sendoff with a loud standing ovation. Never fear, there are other good groups the G-A club brings in and hopefully you will also enjoy them. Now go grab a good half-liter and practice your eins, zwei, gesoffa!
