Hello Villagers,

Living in SC, one of the architectural details used on homes around here are outside shutters called Bermuda (or some times Bahama) shutters. I have not seen any in TV and wonder if any of you have any knowledge as to whether they are allowed.

Bermuda shutters go on the outside of the house and can be cranked open and shut like a louver would. They do not fold in and then out and they cover the entire window. I have tried to point to a URL to upload an image, but not sure if it will work.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Kate

What are the shutters called that prop out from the bottom and when dropped close off the whole window? Apparently originally made for strong winds like in Hurricanes?

Hi Gracie,

Those are Bahama/Bermuda shutters - although today many are more decorative than functional in the event of a hurricane.
