My wifes' brother and his wife live in The Villages and called today to tell us how mad they are about their inability to get tee times. They do not have priority status (can't afford it). They blame it on all the Lifestyle Preview people there at this time of the year. This would be on the executive courses. Are those of you who live in The Villages experiencing similar problems? Do you think he's doing something wrong? They try, using the computer system, and say there's nothing available.

 No problems here, hubby has a priority membership, and he uses the computer system all the time and doesn't seem to have any problems getting on either the Championship courses nor the Executive Courses. So sorry your Brother-in-law is having problems.

Priority memberships only apply to the championship courses. Does not impact on your ability to get on to the executive courses. Also, preview people also only play on the championship courses. As to the executive courses - I get a tee time assigned 80% of the tee.

Is the problem NO tee times are available or the tee times they prefer?
NO tee times for the course they prefer or NO tee times.
We play only a couple times per week, no priority membership, we put in 4-4 days in advance as recommended, 8 out of 10 times we get one of the 3 courses we list and 8 out of 10 we get within an hour of the requested time.

Hence we can honestly say no problem busy season or any other season.

The rentals do not get a preference over residents. There is a block of tee times for home style visitors if they abide by the rules...if they don't they get in line with everybody else. I got this from the tee time office.

Have him take the tee time school and follow their guidance. Once you do that, most always you can get a time. So my guess is he is doing something wrong. Make sure he gives a window of time vs a specific time, chose multiple courses vs a single course. The more flexible you are with time and course, the more likely you are to get a time. Many times I just go to a course as a single, and wait until the starter can get me out with another group. Never had to wait more then 20 to 30 minutes before someone comes along as a threesome and I get to play with them. Meet lots of great people that way also.

When using the computer its important that he make a "request" rather than a "reservation". A request will allow him to put his request in at least 4 days in advance. A "reservation" will only allow him to get a tee time 3 days in advance based on what is left over from the requests.

When we did our preview we had a choice of executive vs championship. While logic says "it's free - get the most for your $$$," I would guess there are those that are new to golf or who just want to experience the executive courses.

Sure there is not much available if you just go in a day or two in advance and see what you can get. You have to be flexible in your time to play and put down a few courses. I play the executive courses with my wife 5 times a week and have only been shut out once in the last two months and it was my fault by putting down only a 3 hour span. I ask for 6 courses and all day from 8 to 4 and usually get my first or second choice of course and the times vary from around 8 am to 3 pm...Be Flexible.....

Ditto on a lot of what was said above. We play a 4-some every Tues afternoon and an 8-some every Thurs. Haven't missed a date this year. We put in for any of 6 or so courses with a decent time span. Normally get the 1st or 2nd choice on courses real close to the preferred time.

Singles and often pairs generally can get as much golf as they want, both thru requests and reservations once the tee times are allocated. Many play twice a day because they are willing to play early and late and aren't course choosy. Some even play Pelican.

Re the Preview folks, I believe all the exec courses set aside a small number of tee times for them. If they are not taken, they are released for late reservations. Not sure how this works, time-wise or otherwise.

Pelican? Why wouldn't you want to play Pelican? I love that course. I like to play Pelican and Heron to get in an 18 hole executive set. Both are really nice executive courses. Pelican gives a little bit of a challenge and Heron is a good before or after, all from the same starter shack. And all down with in my Village.

Actually, I like Pelican. However, it does have a couple holes that are scary, with that wild grass, weeds, & whatever else is in there just reaching up to grab the ball. #1, for instance, would be a pretty simple hole if it were rolling grass twixt tee and green. I'd probably hit the green 80+% of the time. However, when you stand on the tee and face that tall (EXPLETIVE DELETED), it's a tad intimidating. #6 is an easy par 4, except I can't seem to hit a driver or 3 wood over a stretch of wild stuff that I could easily clear with a 6 iron. Who said the damned game made sense, anyway? I score better on Roosevelt than on Sandhill -- that disgustingly short downhill (#6, maybe) just eats me alive, and it seems soooo easy.

But back to the subject ---- any resident can get on the Execs at least once or twice a week, if they're flexible.

Sometimes the problem with getting tee times is the small window of time the person puts in. During snowbird season you have to have at least a 4-5 window. So be flexible and put in the most hours you can play. I usually put in between 9 and 2 pm and I get tee times on the executive courses 2 and sometimes 3 times a week. Hope this helps.

I think for whatever reason.it is almost impossable to get the desired tee time with only 3 days advanced notice .... and if you are trying to fit your golf between other activities you must then contend with the setting sun or perhaps the rising sun ...... this is a new thing this year ..... also if your partner(??) doesn't play you may have a problem with gender if you are making a request( possably there could be a gender prefrence in the Request format)........... few guys want to play with 3 strange women and not to many women want to play with 3 strange guys :ohdear: ......... ya think

I like the "natural" surroundings of both of those Heron and Pelican and the squirrel monkeys add a little fun. Don't bring treats or those little burglers will jump in your cart and carry them off.

First of all,, the easy one --- I love playing with strange women. Though I've generally kept it to one on one in the past, maybe a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 might be fun to try. And I really hope there are still women out there who like playing with strange guys.

Re the 3 day notice, at that stage you're going straight to the reservation portion ---- too late for a request. If you're a single or even a double, you'd have a wide choice of tee times all day long. If you're a foursome, the only thing open is going to be a few of the 1st or 2nd tee times and some real late ones that race the sun.

Don't know what you meant by ". . . you must then contend with the setting sun or perhaps the rising sun ...... this is a new thing this year. . . " I seem to remember the sun rising and setting in previous years and even had to quit golfing due to darkness on occasion.

Oh, and if you sign up to join an existing reservation, I believe it tells you the male/female makeup of the group, though I don't think it notes whether the are strange or not.

Tee times definitely seem to be tighter this winter than last. I can only speak to the Exec courses.

The newest exec courses, Roosevelt and Truman, opened up around Labor Day 2007....that's 18 months ago. There are approximately 3,000 more houses in TV now than in Sept 07.... all those golfers gotta go somewhere.

The 2 new exec courses, north of SandHill are scheduled to open in Fall 09. That will certainly help.
