This morning I was going to our neighborhood mail station.
A golf cart was direct in front of me I and I had to wait for him to go thru 6 parking slots , then turn hard left so he could pull out-all of this so he didn't have to back out
Felt like stopping directly in front of him & making him wait.
There was no one else at the station besides us
Just gave him a nasty look when he returned to his cart.
Have never seen anyone attempt this with a car

I have seen a lot of people do this, especially when it gets busy at the mail station. It's is sometimes difficult and dangerous to back out when there is a lot of automobile traffic.

You did well by not stopping in front of him...as I would have.
The "I will inconvenience you, so that I'm not inconvenienced" crowd.....gets on my nerves. :D

You couldn't pull into a parking space because he was transversing all spaces with no indication where & when he would do his thing. My days of confrontation are over, I have a CCW and worst thing that could happen is an escalation beyond my control.

IMHO-golf carts on roads are death traps-they were designed for golf courses not roads--@ our age we will not survive a crash that would have been considered minor in our youth. Again, the reason I buy a certain brand of car is for safety--its primary function is to protect me and my passengers.

I have to agree that it is rude for golf cart drivers to do this, more especially when it is crowded at the postal station. Where are the ones in cars supposed to park if every golf cart is taking up at least two spaces so that they don't have to back out? If they want to park like that, then park across the lot. I like close access to my box just the same as anyone else, especially if my husband gets out to get the mail; he has mobility issues and as of late, so do I. The less I have to hobble, the better.
Not meaning to sound cantankerous, but I still think it's rude to make others wait while those drivers do their maneuvers and then take more than one space.

How long did you have to wait for him to do the whole maneuver?
Seems to me a cart could pull that off
pretty quickly...like in seconds
What's the rush?

Snagged again. I guess my previous post had a little Jersey Flavor to it. I have so much to be thankful for. It was me at the mailbox and I don't have reverse in my loaner cart that's why I did my best to get out of the way quickly. Sorry my speed or lack of speed did not meet your specifications. I'll work on it!

I do this at Mail box--it takes seconds to do and it is because I rather pull out seeing other cars and carts in front of me than backing out. If the person drove thru 6 spots, there were 5 others the OP could take. I have seen CARS pull in and take 3 spots rather than back up. They park SIDEWAYS. And I have had CARTS follow me and drive BEHIND me when I stop to go into reverse to get to the next parking spot without a warning honk. But if there are plenty of spots ???

I do this all the time with my Benz Van and many times with my car. Much easier and safer to pull out forward from a parking spot. I'm always equidistant from both parking lines. :beer3:

And I was wondering who was doing that.....:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
To the OP: Seriously, how long could it take for a golf cart to cross 6 spaces and park facing out?? And if no on else was there, why was there a "wait" at all??? Even if this guy was crossing the spaces at 0.001 mph. you could be in another spot, empty your mailbox, and be home before he put his parking brake on. Please don't shoot him!!!

That is how it looks to me too. I think that if the OP owned a golf cart and drove a golf cart, then he may view this differently.. And as someone else pointed out, this IS a golf cart community, Both cart drivers and car riders need to be patient and cautious around each other. I would rather be going forward in my golf cart rather than backing up in a situation where there are cars doing unpredictable things. They can harm you. Especially if the driver is carrying.

Old age has caught up with me and I can no longer pivot my neck as much as I could when I was younger. This makes it difficult for me to back out safely at the postal stations. When spaces are available, I pull through and point out for a safer edit.

Why can't these cart drivers back in to the parking spot, instead of cutting across all lanes?
If that's a basic skill not possible for them...maybe those folks shouldn't be driving?
What do they do when cars/carts are blocking some of the spaces, so they aren't able to drive across all of the lanes...come back later for their mail?

The cart drivers are not crossing across all lanes.
It would take longer to back in to a space,
it would be the same with a car.
I can't speak for others but if carts and cars
were in some of the spaces I wouldn't do it.
Sounds like you don't drive a golf cart.
I really can't see where the practice causes big TV delays!
Like somebody mentioned earlier, it's more

Some might just be thinking only of themselves, yes, but there are some who might just have neck or back issues and are unable to make the body turns necessary to safely back their cart. Probably more dangerous for someone to just back up without turning than to make the maneuver that can be a short inconvenience for others. We all age, our capabilities change, and in many cases, our patience level changes, too. It's frustrating to wait, but someday we could be the one causing the inconvenience.

I drive my golf cart almost everywhere and also almost always back in (as I do with my automobile).
Even if I have to wait a minute to do so, as I do not believe that I have a right to inconvenience everyone else...just so that I'm not inconvenienced.
Or I back in on the opposite side (my postal area provides parking on two sides), even if it means I have a little further walk.
Not too many of us (including myself)....couldn't use a little more walking anyway.
But hey...that's just me.

Please note my post above in regards to those who have no problem 'inconveniencing others."
In regards to those with physical limitations, if someone is not able to turn their heads "to safely back their carts" and with all of the areas needed to look back over your shoulder when merging (coming out of some tunnels or merging with other cart paths for example)...maybe they are unsafe to even drive a cart (or automobile for that matter)?

that maybe when these minor situations occur,
which tax and vex our patience a bit,
they take on a far too much significance!

Could be they do not drive their cars and limit their cart driving. I have not idea. We who have the ability to make the necessary moves to safely back a car or cart need to do just that....look, stop, wait, when we see something that appears unsafe and maybe selfish. We are not there to enforce vehicle laws. If you feel someone is an unsafe driver, car or cart, call the necessary enforcement people .
Sometimes we are upset with situations where rules don't seemed to be followed. Other times we can be empathetic and compassionate. Some people can just be plain selfish and some are dealing with things we can't see or imagine....we don't really know. Some days I'll be more compassionate than other days, but if they endanger my life, I'll whip out my cell phone and call the sheriff.

Wow I have seen this also but if someone does not want to back out then when you pull in just back into the parking spot so you just pull out into he traffic. And what beats that is the ones on the main road with car traffic and they come to a merge area into traffic they just hold their hand out and think this gives them the right of way. Cars are going faster, merge means slow down or stop if you have to! don't stick your hand out to let the faster cars coming down the road to slow down for your cart to get out into traffic. Try doing that in your car when merging on to the turnpike and see where it gets you.

Sounds good on the surface, but....
There is an old principle in the game of bridge suggested by a great player of days gone by. He said, "always accept a lead out of turn, because a player who doesn't know who's turn it is to lead probably doesn't know WHAT to lead either":1rotfl::1rotfl:
Likewise, a cart driver who claims the inability to back out of a parking space probably doesn't have the skill to back INTO it either.:1rotfl::1rotfl:

It would make so much sense, if the CDD realized that traffic would flow so much more freely, pedestrians would be safer, and people would not be so traumatized in backing up if there was one entrance designated IN and the other OUT and that the pattern were duplicated identically at all mail stations.

3) Don't take his saved seat at a square

I have seen a lot of people do this, especially when it gets busy at the mail station. It's is sometimes difficult and dangerous to back out when there is a lot of automobile traffic.
I agree Rango, but I guess there's a lot of older people than us that live here & are very impatient. I'm guilty of pulling in forward but I guess I never thought it was dangerous to back out of a parking place. Some people I think are impatient because they're in a hurry to get back to their house for whatever reason. Personally I don't care if I sit there for a hr. waiting to pull out, I'm retired & in no hurry. I do understand that some people can't turn around in their carts & look backwards, then they ought to park further away from the other carts & walk to their mailbox, the walk will do them good!

Looks like almost all golf carts in the squares & Canal St pull in, they must be the ones whipped with reverse

Hey folks. If this happens to you. Be patient and wait for the forward heading cart driver to exit. He may have neck issues. You may get neck issues someday too. Don't stress over small issues, it isn't worth your aggravation.
I agree with second amendment rights but I think most people can leave their firearm at home here in The Villages. An intelligent person can assess the danger level and act accordingly. You are now living in a place not filled with danger. This is very similar to the place we left and I don't feel the need to carry a firearm. I am sure if I had lived in a place where it was dangerous to walk about I would feel differently and if this place changes I will feel differently. I understand it may take a while to realize that this place is very safe and the likelihood of needing a gun to protect yourself anywhere here is very remote. (AT THIS TIME, THAT MAY CHANGE)
Sometimes I wonder why a small thing like a golf cart driver pulling forward through several spaces while ONE car driver has to wait a few seconds changes into a discussion of carrying guns. THAT is what scares me. I do not think gun laws should be changed because if we start disarming those with guns, only the law abiding would surrender them and criminals can get them 24/7.. I think people have a right to own and carry a gun, but people need to adjust to the reality of a situation. My grandmother didn't think people should have a gun in the house because she said "People who love each other can hate each other at times."
Please be patient with people who don't have back up cameras on their golf carts and remember it could be you soon with arthritis in your neck. And remember, I have never seen a swat team member in church with his battering ram. Adjust to the good things that happen to you, but be ready to change.

I usually take a deep breath when I see someone at the postal station parked adjacent to their mail slot as if they are the only residents in TV as I see quite a bit of it. Some people have a sense of entitlement and don't really care or think of being considerate to other people and or their needs.
One would be continually annoyed if they sweat the small stuff that happens in TV. It's just best to not sweat the small stuff. IMHO
BTW - I don't other people rent space in my head. :D

I also think sometimes people pull up and no one is there so they park convenient for themselves. Of course, as soon as they put their key in the box, everyone starts pulling up.

So true but again, or they right in assuming no one will be coming? Would a few extra steps kill them?
On the other hand, maybe we should realize some people don't feel all that well physically and it affects their mental well being. :ohdear:

Nope, not saying it's right or wrong, just another explanation of why someone might park like that.

Two people at the postal station and one would pull a gun because the other didn't park to his liking? I am glad that I am moving out of TV. It has become too big and congested and peoples tempers are too short. An old guy carrying a gun to the postal station...seriously...he would probably hit 3 mailboxes, 2 trees and not get near where he thinks he is aiming. He would get three hots and a cot and all of the sex he doesn't want in jail if he killed someone for improper parking.

There is a risk, and maybe even a higher risk, of this happening wherever it is you are moving. Crime statistics for TV are well below the national norm. I hope you find happiness in that other place. [emoji41]
