"New" Houses for Sale

In looking through pre-owned homes on the "Welcome to the Villages" site, I notice that a few houses are for sale in the new villages, so they can't be very old at all. I wonder why these people are selling so quickly? Just curious.

When you have a population of 90,000 people, the circumstances of some of them change. There are myriad reasons, health, family issues, financial crisis, deaths, a desire to upgrade or a simple decision that The Villages is not the right place. I don't think there is any one underlying cause.

We went to a yard sale a few months ago in one of the new villages in a home that was for sale. I asked the woman why they were moving when they had lived there for only a few months, and she explained that she was not happy to leave but that her husband so terribly missed fishing in the the of setting that was his passion that they were moving 'back home' (Kentucky or Tennessee, I think). Who would ever think of fishing, except someone who is passionate about the sport? The bottom line is that there can be a myriad of reasons why people sell their homes in TV and move on.

There seems to be a lot of houses in Hadley and Duval for sale that have barely (or never) been occupied. For some grandparents, I think that leaving the family back home proves to be just too painful.

I have talked to two owners selling their new homes. Both of them said that they recently lost a lot of money in the economic disaster.

There's a beautiful villa in Bonita... overlooking Havana, on Canal... NEVER had the furniture in it.... up for sale. That means the people who bought it never even spent a nite in it!

To me, the move-back-north sales generated because one or the other of the couple or both of them miss the kids and grandkids is the saddest reason, save those where someone died almost before coming here.

Emotionally, even though I have only near-adult step-grandchildren, I guess I can understand these folks' thinking, but I cannot truly embrace it.

My own children would far rather come visit me here than have me visit them where they are. While that does reduce the face-to-face relationships we all cherish, with today's technology, we communicate one way or the other far more than we did "up north!"

Our neighbors lived in their house about a year, and ended up selling it and moving back up north. They missed the kids, and they never really got involved in Villages activites/clubs/events, etc. It can be a tough transistion for some, and unfortunately TV just didnt' work for them. We have other neighbors who are talking about moving back north as well, having only been here a couple years.

I am ready to move t0 TV, but have to sell my home first. With the economy the way it is, that may take a while. I sure don't want to move there and then decide to move again. So....if some of you have strong feelings about the place, I'd like to hear them! I won't know a soul, but understand it is easy to get involved and meet people. Is that right? Phoebeis

We are the same, selling north to move to TV. But concerned also that don't want to make another move. We do have a place on Pine Island and love it there but it's just a mobile home.

Want a Villa so don't have maintance but see so many houses that you get so much more for you money = that can pay for a lot of grass cutting.

We are looking for HONEST replies also.

AJDECK - I think the average for grass cutting on a standard house in TV is around $50 per month. At least that is the cost most people say.

If you are outgoing and friendly, you will find it easy to make friends here. Residents, and particularly neighbors, are welcoming and friendly. If you don't like going out and socializing, you may be lonely.

Most people love TV, but it isn't for everyone. I think in some cases, people are leaving behind family and friends that they like to see on a daily basis. So they end up moving back home.

The majority of people that move to TV absolutely love it and feel ten years younger. I personally love the TV lifestyle! :coolsmiley:

I think one of the best ideas is to rent for a few months, that will help you to decide if TV is where you want to retire. If you have never lived in a warm climate you may consider renting in the Summer to see if you like the heat. We love TV but know it is not for everyone.

Phoebis, I don't see a "lot" of lease with options, at least when I was looking, but there are plenty of homes around here otherwise, you'll not have a problem.

Are you year round? From what the realestate lady told us is snowbirds mostly have villa's but when move here find they need more space and move to house. Mainly that is the question, what to buy if don't want to move around.

Short of a severe personal crisis, I would advise anyone to "give it a year" before they panic and move back home.

Another reason people sell their home is that they want to upgrade or they may find themselves to far away from activities like the town squares.
