messaging and assume the role of leadership.
Here is an article by Dick Morris (the name will no doubt draw some ire)...forget the author....it is the message that I and many others (BOTH PARTIES) happen to believe:
http://thehill.com/dick-morris/its-obama-spreading-panic-2009-02-24.html
(you may have to copy and paste the link).
He has yet to shift his rhetoric from campaign mode to that of POTUS and a world leader. He will find out sooner or later that POTUS can not be an office for a populist. He must break loose of the party/personal line and begin leading.
I am still going to wait for his first annual address to the nation....one year later...to make a final judgment. My background, in putting new executives in place dictates progress from day one and excludes allowing the continual reminding of how bad the situation is.....we know it that is why we hired you..now get to work.....my message to Obama.....stop campaigning...stop painting the pot blacker...start fixing....and oh by the way wake me when some one...anyone...hears some hope from the man.
That is how I see it (for now) like it or not that is my opinion, subject to change ONLY with accomplishment of objectives....NOT WORDS.

I think a look at the other side of the coin here is prudent.. I have no doubt that if the President had less "doom and gloom" it would simply be fodder in this country for the same folks with nothing but the same old rote crticisms. Instead they would be saying he is not honest, he is glossing over things and not coming clean. The above noted article is a perfect example of that. I want a straight opinion, and even so I think we probably still don't get the full depth and breadth of the problem. As usual there will likely be a lag time between the manifestion of how bad things are the the government recognition of it, quite the the 6-12 months or more it takes to publicly pronounce we are in a recession.
Waiting a year to begin making judgments certainly seems prudent to me. It is a little tough to see the validity of blanket condemnations of a man in office for a few weeks. Does anyone trying to take a true objective view of this think for a minute that a new president can come in set set decades cronyism and complacency on its' ear in this scant several weeks? I guess the key word is objective though. Some never will be no matter what, as is plain to see even on this forum.
Accomplishment not words is THE litmus test. I do think realistically significantly more time than has been allowed is in order to justify the overwhelming negative judgment and blanket condemnation this President is facing from those bound and determined to pronounce him a failure this early and waiting with baited breath on his failure. It certainly is in order to make an honest and accurate assessment if indeed that is one's goal.
I can see the complaints of "campaign rhetoric", I can also see someone commited to leadership and willing to make some decisions that may be tough and unpopular, that should have been addressed long ago, and willing to face the fire for it. So far looks like leadership to me.
I actually do hear cautious hope tempered with honest realism, pragmatism if you will, from this President. I can see how others construe this as negativity though. Its a matter of perception and is certainly tempered to a great degree on how one wants to see it. That is human nature is suppose. The intellectual challenge I think is to recognize that and be willing know that the truth of all if it always lies somewhere in the middle, and no amount of anger, shrill emotion or rabid partisinism will change that truth.
Yeah, I think accomplishments and not words are the ways to measure progress and success, I think I may just give him time and some cautious support to actually do just that. Just my opinion, like it or not.

I respect your opinion and actually I have not much problem with his perceived gloom and doom and there are many points in his budget where he will draw my support.
My problem is of course that I VIOLENTLY disagree with his basic idealogy and it appears thus far that he is even further radical left than I thought !!!
That and what I consider his dishonesty thus far in only 6/7 weeks on so many things...not just the prok (which I agree is a two party problem but what he said and what he is doing are two different things), but his rules for ethics that dont seem to apply to him...his much ballyhoed rules for WH staff members but seems there are exceptions....the open attempt to grab the census to the WH....but I fear so very much this much celebrated left turn for this country and the "celebration", it seems to me, of the tearing apart any semblance of the capitalism that made this country great.
I just cannot forget how we got here financially....the pandering for votes by making home ownership available to those who just could not afford a home for the last 10 years....the Government actually FORCED some institutions to make these loans and how we seem to have forgotten that and now will appeal for free college, and whatever else seems to be popular ! We will just give more money to the radical groups like ACORN and Laraza.
Maybe you see me as a sore loser but I do not resent the rich...I do not want them go give money back....I do not believe in robbing them to pay for others. I do believe in teaching people how to WORK and get to college on their own...how to train for work but we are already in an era of handouts...and that has become something that is handed down from generation to generation. Now the next generation of those supported by the Government can say how they have added college fees and insurance to the list of things the just get !!!

Violently huh? I can see that.
Not really into addressing all the innaccuracies and double standards in the above staements...just to tired today and it wouldn't do much good I'm afraid.
Let's paint each everyone with the same quality of expectations with regard to honesty and ideaology...well that would be a nice thought anyway.

come to an end.
During his Presidency all the things everybody wanted became a possibility.
During his tenure the dow was at 14,000 (October 2007).
Most likely these things would have happened no matter who was in the Oval office.
The seeds for the so called "melt down" were there long before Bush.
The warnings were posted during his reign...they were ignored by All the lawmakers and the entitlement continued....no matter who was POTUS.
Anyway to be continually looking back and continually bashing Bush as the comparison for Obama is such a waste of time...but if it makes one feel good...please indulge.
As far as giving Obama a chance....most of us are. When he allows the Congress to continue to spend and promote pork when he said he would not have that is only business as usual. If he doesn't put a stop to the business as usual that cost us billions continuously....without stepping in and say...I get it...and stopping it....sorry, when a known wrong...when an opportunity to make good on a promise is passed up or the practice allowed to continue....that IS NOT leadership. It is merely allowing more of the same
To not stop these business as usual, spend the bajesus while we are in a so called financial crisis can leave one with only a couple of conclusions. One a candidate says what ever sounds good to get elected.....typical politician....which he is. However the most likely reason is he does not have what it takes to take on Pelosi and her lemmings. Why else would he NOT nip some of the obvious non productive, costly business as usual practices in the bud.
A good leader does what he says....and on the basics he is not.
Without a prepared speech/script he is no better than the average speaker.
He is an excellent reader, speech maker.
He has not taken on the wastefull, ineffective processes of the inept Congress...
No need to wait much longer to see what he does about it in the future. An effective leader wades in and stops the non productive stuff....a politician just talks about it.
He...like all the rest is a politician...mostly still campaigning...like all the rest.
It is still business as usual.

Sure am not trying to impress you in anyway.....know where you are coming from on any issue.
I began by respecting your opinion....I mentioned that I had no problem with the gloom and doom and mentioned that I had agreement with much of his budget.
I then told you what I disagreed with and you come back with a smart @#$ crack.....
I would welcome you to point out what I said that was inaccurate....you said you "werent into" addressing them which means you cannot.

I don't think President Obama's speech the other night was at all about gloom and doom. I think he is realistic (refreshing) and honest (unheard of) and stunningly inspiring. His voice is heard around the world and resonates with both good will AND tough determination. :eclipsee_gold_cup:

I'm torn. I'm a reasonably (my opinion only) conservative republican who was happy to vote for Obama. Eight years of Bush was torture for me . . . . But his 90 degree turn to the left scares me, and I'm afraid I enabled it with my vote. I love his policies on Guantanamo, Iraq and on forming international alliances. But taxing the rich to fund his ideology, well, that's over the top to me. He's going to really hurt the middle class, but that may have been his goal all along. I can only hope that he thinks of Pelosi and Reid similarly to me - that he needs to keep them at bay. But I just don't know . . . .

Collie--- How could you be surprised at how he is governing? It certainly wasn't a secret. I'm a little surprised at the speed, but as Rahm Emanuel says, "Never let a crisis go to waste."

Sally Jo, you posted before I could. I don't know how anyone could be surprised with what Obama is doing and when I hear people say that they are, it frustrates the heck out of me!
I know some very productive people who plan to just give it up and retire early instead of turning over about half of their hard earned income to the government. Punishing hard working, (and yes people making ever $250,000 can be hard working individuals), is not the way to increase governmental revenue. Who do you think creates jobs??
I'm so afraid that we are in for some even tougher times and Lord, I hope I am wrong.

The use of the "economic crisis" as the instrument to ram through social agenda not related to the "economic crisis" as semi-hidden paragraphs within the ultra-expensive stimulus bill is causing most of the criticism.
While there can be all the rhetoric of "gotta move quickly" on the stimulus spending, there is no justification for the social program items not getting full congressional review, debate and discussion.
Mr. Obama came into office with key "change" agenda, including the operating in the sunshine on any new programs via express, visible public exposure prior to any Executive Office action. I can accept the majority vote for wanting that change, but now is time to deliver on what that majority was promised. He has only been in office for a few weeks, but that does not excuse the process actions such as operating in the sunshine from being accomplished.
Mr. Obama is finding himself with a "Hillary" of his own, that being Rep. Pelosi. Her snide remarks and insults about everything not to her liking and everyone who does not pay her homage appear to be condoned, if not actually encouraged, by Mr. Obama. She is acting and sounding like the "We are the President" of the past, and his imputed acknowledgment of her in that role only will add to criticism of him.
So, Mr. Obama needs to deliver on the process promises now. The product promises that the American majority are expecting can take time, and hopefully won't bankrupt the minority who actually pay taxes.
If he can't deliver on the process promises, then he is indeed showing himself as just another politician of whom P.T. Barnum would have been proud

and acknowledges Pelosi as an impediment to ANYTHING will be as they say a cold day in you know where.
She is only one of the inept lawmakers in Washington (both parties).
She just happens to hold the front runner position of the party in Congress.
Politicians DO NOT take other politicians to task unless they are snipping at the opposition...both parties.
They have only one agenda....their personal one...then the party...we the people do not make the first page...never did (no matter what party).
And we the sheeple, continue to re-elect them.
As Steve always says dump 'em in 2010 and 2012...but that won't happen either. You want proof...Barney Frank????? Harry Reid???? Now Burris????
They can lye...cheat....not pay taxes...adulterers...wierdos and queers...too old to find their own hat...incompetent...etc....yet the sheeple continue to re-elect them.
We the people...the permissive, pacifists, the not in my backyard, it ain't my problem, dolts that continue to allow them to stay in office.
Term limits...50 million letters to the law makers demanding term limits might make a noise to be reckoned with...unfortunately that will never happen.
None would last one year in any other responsible organization.
The silent majority gets what it deserves.
We need another revolution...but that spirit no longer exists in America either.
What a pity. We are fortunate due to our ages. Our children and future generations will have it far worse.
The terrorists need only stand by and watch the implosion!!!
Change??? BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
