That you are retired?

After 40+ years of working today was my last day.
Had donuts, lunches, dinners and the gift of beautiful pearls from the people I called co-workers and friends.

When did you wake up and realize that you are retired, don't have to get up & get the train to the City, ( workin' for the man every night and day , sorry I digress) and how did you feel?

Whalen:

Retiring and going to the VIllages is the best. To retire up North and have to go through the hard weather is boring and depressing. You wil not realize it for about 3 to 4 weeks. It will first be like a vacation and then you realize. NO MORE WORK. NOW WHAT. Stay busy and all will be well. Don't do all on the to do list too quickly. You have plenty of time.

You feel retired when you arrive here. You deserve this wonderful place. You have worked hard to wake up smiling everyday. There is so much to do and no pressure to do any of it.

Plus. Your kitties will have a total new personality here. Ours did. I think they feel retired too.

Step right in my dear. You have arrived at the first day of the beautiful rest of your life!!!

You feel retired when:
....after 2 weks of not having to get up early, you realize that you are NOT on vacation and that you never have to get up to the ringing of an alarm clock (unless you want to).

....you can avoid the week-end crowds and go shopping during the day.

....you can schedule Dr's appointments during the day, no more rushing during luch, after work or having to take a day off for an appointment

....you (ladies) don't ever have to put on another pair of pantihose!

....you can go out to lunch with your friends....during the week.

....you can stay up as late as you want blogging on TOTV and don't have a thought in your mind about having to get to bed because you have to get up early.

....you can take off on a trip anytime....now....ASAP!!!!

HAVE A GREAT TIME....IT IS THE LIFE.

Congratulation Whalen, what a great feeling. It took me till the next morning when I threw out my alarm clock and haven't used one since. I also don't wear a watch and I feel so FREEEEE!!!! Maybe that's why I'm always late, but who cares????
I too worked 40+ years straight, no kids, no breaks and I was sure ready!! I'm so happy for you, this is the greatest day of your life!

AND

... you can dress like you want seven days a week

... you can work on those projects you have been putting off because you could not find the time.

... you can go on day trips - every day.

Z, and....
.... you don't have to dress if you don't want to
.... or you still can put off those projects cause time is never an issue
.... or you can think like "every day" is a day trip...
Welcome to the world of retirement. Worked 48 years for this.

I'm not retired yet so I can't answer the original question. However, like several people on here, I don't have too long to go. I'm down to less than 7 months and time really seems to be flying by! :pepper2:
