Lanai Floor

We are considering having our lanai floor done. I am not sure what the proper term is but on the walls it is referred to as knock down. Does anyone have any suggestions on contractors or has anyone had this done?

I think you are talking about 'cool coat', it is a rough finish, easy to walk on, and I guess cooler then concrete. We had that installed when our house was built. You may want to search this site (use the word lanai), as there have recently been several threads about finishing lanai floors.

I did read many of the posts but could not find any really directing towards referrals for this type of work. We have had an estimate for the river rock and are considering but also are considering the 'knock down'. We do not want tile or painted concrete so I was hoping for Villagers referrals.

We have the Chattahoochee river rock and it is fantabulous!! I LOVE the feel of it and the fact that water drains through it as our lanai is screens only.
As for maintaining it, I treat it annually with a clear coat and nothing till following year. The floor washes well and vacuum or sweep. We also did the front landing.... 1 step and the stoop with the rock. Works so well.

I have attached a picture of our lanai done with Chattahoochee River rock. It has been down about 5 years and is fabulous! Looks great, feels great on the bare feet and need no mtc in an enclosed area. Matt Allums owns the company. unsure of number.

Our lanai has this "knock down" finish. Here it is called "acrylic decking". We watched our contractors do this project. It is usually a multi day process. If your concrete is unfinished, they will first clean it and do an acid wash. After drying, they add a rough stucco and flatten it down. Then comes a primer coat followed by one or two coats of acrylic deck paint. (The darker colors sometimes require a second coat.)

The acrylic decking is easy to clean with a hose. Ours is also cooler to walk on. It lasts a long time (depending on use) and covered or uncovered. Reapplication is cleaning then repainting the deck.
