I took our 2 y/o lab to Buffalo Ridge vet in Pinellas, where he had recently had his annual checkup, because he was obsessively licking his back left foot and was putting little weight on it. Vet took a cursory look at the foot (didn't squeeze the toes to separate the toes and pads and didn't look at the bottom of his foot) and diagnosed probable ACL (knee) injury - "dogs stand like that on their toes when they hurt their knees". He was put on an anti-inflammatory for 5 days and started on glucosamine chews ($79/bag). Over the weekend, when he was (still) licking his foot, I spotted a growth on his pad! Thank Heaven for TOTV where, last week, I learned about Dr. Porter in Wildwood. We have just returned from his office, and I couldn't be more relieved to know that there is nothing wrong with Carson's knee. However, Dr. Porter had to aspirate the growth and send it off to the lab to see what kind of growth it is. He suggested that in the meanwhile I get cortisone cream to put on it to calm the itch/pain until we get the lab report. I am angry and upset that we lost valuable time while the poor dog limped around the house wishing he could go to the dog park and play with his buddies. Dr. Porter reminds me of a wonderful country vet we had in Upstate NY many years ago. Thank you TOTV responders for recommending him!

hope they are not chiggers, very painful, you can look them up on line they are a nuisance here in the south so are some of the larger Vet practices! They really have no problem spending your money.

We've used Dr. Porter for our dogs for many years.
He saved our cat's life when she was misdiagnosed by a local vet clinic (not Buffalo Ridge).
Dr. Porter doesn't have a high tech office like Buffalo Ridge,
but we like the fact that he feels like a good old-fashioned country Vet.
We like his common-sense approach; and we find he really listens.

We also like Dr. Porter. As others have posted, office is definitely not fancy smanchy, but he is a good vet and also doesn't charge like all the other area fancy smanchy offices.

Hoping all is well with your 2 y/o lab's "lab" report.
