I went to the University of Nevada, Reno thirty years before he was the Quarterback for the Wolfpack in the late 2000s. So, I have heard of him. He is also very good at baseball and could probably get a job with MLB.
Some of the University of Reno, Nevada alumni magazines have featured Colin Kaepernick.
And I lived in the SF Bay area from 1984-1986 and late 1991-mid 1996 and would follow the 49ers which was also a favorite team of many people in Reno, Nevada along with the Oakland Raiders.
I still believe he has a right to make a complete ass of himself which is part of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

He is entitled as every one states. But there is a limit to stupidity.
This is another minority, islolated case case, being amplified by the media for the sensational appeal to the uninformed.
When all gets said and done he is setting himself up to claim racism or dicrimination if and or when he gets canned.
Because he saw the potential for being cut, he just thought he should get the needed notoriety to go with it, to facilitate in the use of a lawsuit.
Flash in the pan, nobody will even remember him in a couple of weeks.
And if he does get to play we will be able to see whether he is just all mouth and lack of sense or capable.

Tony Dunghy is his book, asked his son, "instead of getting mad at a problem, what are you going to do to fix it"?
I think this player needed to start a charitable organization or work in the community to resolve some of these issues. He doesn't give himself credibility to show disrespect for our country by not standing for the national anthem. IMHO
He has the right to express his opinion as this is a free country, right or wrong. I think his form of expression left a lot to be desired. Some people will be for his right to express himself and some people will not like the way, in which he expressed it. I'm sure he will like the $140M he is getting in salary. We all had things we didn't like with our jobs but we kept our mouths shut to ensure future employment.
Hopefully, he will be relegated to a second stringer and be eased out of his job in the near future. Most football organizations don't agree with the way he expressed himself.
Unfortunately, some other team will want to win so badly, they will sign him, assuming he doesn't stick with SF.

That's unfortunately true. He may have a hired limo though take him around places. Or maybe a bodyguard/driver. He is going to have to increase his bodyguards and how well he treats them.

I've been on TOTV a year and a half. I love the give and take of people's opinions and the friendly banter that goes on. I also have crossed the line with my words several times and smoked someone and left them in a pile of ashes only to have my post removed. I am trying to learn from that and control myself on this issue. I can't remember starting a thread in a long time because I am basically a laid back easy going person. This is not an issue where being quiet works or clowns like this will invade the minds of my grandchildren and the way I see it if we don't respect than all is lost. The need for respect of each other has already slipped away, in this case the respect for the very people who keep us safe is being subliminally poked by this man. He made his Constitutionally Protected Point. Have I made mine?
Different people have things and projects in their life that are important. This is important to me. I wouldn't dream of disrespecting something that was important to any person. If I don't defend my beliefs than all is lost. So many people believe what I believe, I don't have a number to back me up but I would think 4 out of 5 people Respect those who Protect our Country and Protect us everyday.
He is protecting himself because his playing ability is slipping, he is getting ready for his career to end. Should those who protect his speech take into account his record? Clearly showing he is not stable. He was fined for racial slurs. He is also reportedly dating a girl whose beliefs may have helped him to turn his back on our country for a little romp. Check it out!

2BNTV: Great response and on target. If this guy believes what he is saying then since has the power of celebrity and the time afforded a multi-millionaire to do something positive he ought to use his energy into creating then trying to destroy.
In my humble view far too many celebrities in entertainment, sports, music are way over paid . I do not based that on sales receipt but as to their contribution to society. Guys on the front lines military police fire contribute, etc,etc.....
Its ironic that guys like this who are the greater recipients of the benefits derived from living in our free society bad mouth this nation more. so when guys like this say things like this I take my cue. they do not appreciate me and I do not appreciate them so I tune them all out because if it weren't for guys like us this bozo would be plying his sport in sandlot games only

Not too bad. They lost 31-34 to the Baltimore Ravens.
The final score doesn't tell the story. The third quarter score was Ravens 28 to 49ers 6. With 13 minutes to go in the third quarter a 34 minute power failure hit the Super Dome. Call it a conspiracy, an attempt to retain the viewers who hadn't changed the channel, whatever, after the black out the 49ers finally came alive and made a decent game of it. However, in the end the right team prevailed.
Here's a photo of the one-hit wonder, while calling Donald Trump a racist and spouting off about blacks being oppressed, he's wearing a t-shirt with fidel castro's picture. The dictator of one of the most oppressive governments in the western hemisphere is not the world. The other person in the t-short photo is Malcom X, who famously said "If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything", so apparently Kaepernick who was raised by white parents, has fallen for the black lives matter trap. Now, with flights available to Cuba, he can go and play for the Castro team.

I sometimes realize that I get it wrong on my view on things. I went from no time to deeply examine issues to having as much time as I need to think things thru. Realistically my opinion matters to nobody just like De Niro's recent outburst doesn't matter to me. When anyone famous or not does wrong as a Dad and Grandfather I have to lead by example and not walk around mad about the things that others do. The subject of this Thread San Fran 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick will get his first start of the season this Sunday Oct. 16th
vs The Buffalo Bills . The game will be played at " New Era Field " in the quaint town of Orchard Park , NY at 1:05 PM .
{ Note : The population of Orchard Park a Town founded originally by Quakers is about 29,000 . A Buffalo Bills game swells the population to over 100,000 temporarily } .
In response to the controversy surrounding Mr. Kaepernick`s decision to express his feelings about America during the National Anthem , Bills starting Star Running- Back LeSean McCoy , a child of poverty and an urban setting , is paying for about 30+ Police Officers from surrounding communities to attend the game as his guests and hopefully in uniform if OK by their Departments .
LeSean , a former Philadelphia Eagle , stated that he is not doing this as a counter-demonstration to Mr. Kaepernick but to make a positive gesture to all uniformed Law Enforcement who he feels are getting a great deal of negative press because of as he stated " a few bad ones " .
Finally , as the late Tim Russert , a Buffalo Native , used to say when he signed off his Sunday Morning Broadcast on NBC during the NFL Season : " Go Bills ! " .

CK has made some awful choices of late. I do understand the BLM movement. It has some valid points, whether we like to admit it or not. I love this country and its people. I am happy and proud to respect our flag. However, I firmly believe that it is important to speak out about wrongs and injustices. While I wish CK would find another way to protest, I respect his right to do so and his willingness to take the heat. (And I still think most of this is more of a publicity stunt that standing up -- or kneeling in his case -- for your beliefs.)
For those who have commented that he should use his money to help inner city kids, he has. He just recently announced a $1M donation to that cause. He participates in several charitable functions in the Bay Area and has donated a great deal of his time and money to several different children's causes. He may be misguided and making bad choices but do give him credit where due.

So many great people with so many great views on this issue. For me what it boils down to is as my grandchildren come of age if I still can I will teach them the proper way to respect our country. I never knew how much the message got thru to our son Charles until he came back from Boot Camp and told me of his love for our country. I want that for all youngsters but wasn't dealing in reality when I was so heated at this clown, he has his rites and I have mine. I remember the Mexico City Olympics where Smith and Cruz gave the Black Power salute when our anthem was played. I was livid! My brother, who had just returned from his second tour in Nam, said this is what he fought for -- the right of ALL Americans to peacefully protest. He was sure our father had fought in WWII and Korea for the same reasons. Shut me up then, keeps me from being upset about it today. I'm proud that we live in a country where we can say what we think and protest when we perceive something is wrong. I don't agree with CK but I'm proud that he can make his statement without being jailed.

We may not like it but to condem him from doing what we all do in this forum is bit hipocrital, IMO. You either have Freedom of Speech or you don't.
