If they go to your Lanai that is a taxable event. If and when you go to sell your house the removal permit will be searched by the county. If they don't find the permit they will assume the doors were removed at purchase, change your taxes to that date and you will be responsible to pay them and a lien filed until they are paid. The sale will not close until the lien is lifted. I suggest you visit your County office for all the details. When we enclosed our Lanai two years ago we were informed of the process by Sumpter County so our sliders are still there.

JoMar, an excellent explanation, including the possible future consequences.

Which county office do you mean, please? I'm considering removing two windows and replacing them by sliders to my birdcage.

You could just remove them and store them in your garage. Then reinstall them if you need to.

The tax thing is overblown. I am right now doing a Category 5 remodeling which is the big one, remove the sliding doors and track, pour concrete to level the lanai floor with the rest of the house, add electrical outlets and ceiling lights, add new e-glass floor to ceiling windows, drywall and paint, tile the floor and add a Mitsubishi air conditioner (which is called a dehumidifier). This is on a Lantana home with a 12 by 26 lanai.

The annual tax increase will be $196.

Agree...........my old number was $15,000 of improvements would cost $200 in more RE Taxes.

Agree, but to some here $196.00 is a bunch.
