Wasps have made a home in motion detector that has broken bulb. What to do?

If you can turn off the power to that device. Use a commercial wasp spray to kill off the wasps with the power off. I would wait a day or 2 to make sure there is no activity, then using gloves remove nest, broken bulb, etc. replace bulb, then and only then turn power back on.

If you cannot turn off the power, or cannot find the correct breaker, then I would suggest contacting a licensed electrician to do the above, let them know in advance about the wasps.

Is there a secret to getting a broken bulb out. This one is broken at the base.

I have seen (on TV or the web) using a potato to grasp the broken base, I have not tried it but the video looked convincing.

A nice, new, firm potato works best.
