I can't get into the other news source re: an article that's re: someone on a golf-cart getting killed today by a pick-up over by TVRH. Anyone else having issues with the site??

I couldn't get on that site either, from the Leesburg Daily Commercial Golf cart driver killed in The Villages - Daily Commercial: News (http://www.dailycommercial.com/news/article_0082a668-46f3-56a8-8269-d258190e0442.html)

LADY LAKE – A golf cart driver was killed Monday when a pickup truck struck the cart while it was crossing U.S. 441 in The Villages.

The accident occurred in front of The Villages Regional Medical Center in Lady Lake. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Stephen Sanchez, 77, was driving his 2016 Atomi golf cart east across 441 at Bella Cruz Drive when he was struck by a 1998 Ram pickup heading south on 441.

Sanchez was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. The pickup was driven by Sean Patrick Donovan, 27. Alcohol was not involved. Charges are pending.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission reports that about 15,000 golf cart accidents a year occur in which someone is injured seriously enough to seek emergency room treatment. The Villages, where thousands of residents get around by golf cart instead by car, experiences a number of serious accidents involving golf carts every year.

This is so sad. So sorry to hear this. Prayers go out to all involved.

I do Not believe it is legal for a regular Golf cart. There is one legal crossing a little further north 441, 175st at Stonecrest

I passed this and *believe* it had a license plate on the back, which would mean it was street legal.

I believe the speed limit there is above the legal golf cart speed. Right around 45 MPH.

As there has already been speculation that the driver was not allowed to cross 441..

316.2122 Operation of a low-speed vehicle or mini truck on certain roadways.—The operation of a low-speed vehicle as defined in s. 320.01 or a mini truck as defined in s. 320.01 on any road is authorized with the following restrictions:
(1) A low-speed vehicle or mini truck may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle or mini truck from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour. So most likely the truck was at fault. Very unlikely the lsv is crossing against light.

Unfortunately death resulted, rest in peace.

Doesn't mention it has to be at a traffic light or stop sign.

(There is a traffic light where this happened)

(I'm guessing "Street Legal Vehicle" is a "Low Speed Vehicle".

The damage to the blue vehicle doesn't appear major - maybe the driver hit his head on something?

Perhaps this gentleman shouldn't have been driving anything, anywhere.
No matter what, it's very sad.

The speed at which vehicles travel on 441 to me says don't even attempt to cross. The light MAY have been green when he started and MAY have changed to yellow & red after he stated crossing. Either way sadly someone died. Legal or not I wouldn't cross 441 in a Golf Cart other then using the Bridge. I've seen it by Lowe's with regular non street legal carts. Looking for an early permanent resting place for sure.

There is a traffic light there, but why would assume that the golf cart driver didn't run the red light?

Anything could have happened. The golf cart driver might have had a medical incident and went through a red light. Or the truck driver may have blown the light. I don't see where it's very unlikely that the lsv was crossing against the light.

We'll probably find out more once an investigation is done.

But as you say, a very unfortunate death. RIP.

Street legal golf carts are a tragic accident waiting to happen. This is especially true since The Villages and surrounding communities are growing at a rapid pace creating increase in traffic and all the horribles it creates . I stay away from diamond lanes unless it is absolutely unavoidable

If that guy went though a red light across a six lane highway in a lsv, it had to be suicide or a medical condition.

Today's DS covered this death but not with any details of the accident.

He will be remembered as the type of guy who would give the shirt off his back to anyone.

It always makes me sad to see someone get killed in a golf cart accident after living 77 years or so.

The on-line news said "charges are pending"
I suspect it was the truck that ran the red. Common occurrence around here.
Whether it was a LSV, a bicyclist, a walker, or someone in their scooter, it's tragic.

I legally crossed 441 in a regular Golf cart just to see what was on the other side. It was not a comfortable experience.

I suggest you don't do it then.
I cross everyday and feel very comfortable.
