We are coming down soon for a lifestyle preview. We have played a championship course before but would like to try an executive course. I think we can rent clubs at a championship course then cart over to an executive to play. Anyway I would love some recommendations for an executive course to play. What's your favorite and why? Thanks for any input. :coolsmiley:

If you want a good challenge then play Pelican. Possibly one of the toughest Executive courses here. Hardly any room for error in your tee shots on that course. I would also suggest Truman or Roosevelt. We like them because of the elevation on some holes and along with a windy day it is a decent challenge.

Thanks all for the suggestion. I see by the map a lot of holes are on the lake. Looks great. It is close to Palmer so I can get the clubs there.

Cane Garden is one street over from Pelican. Nothing better than a round at Pelican and the happy hour at Cane!

Pelican is not available to lifestyle preview guests. I got a tee time at Heron right next door and the map indicates it is a close second. Thanks again everyone.

I like Heron too. Played Pimlico couple of days ago. It is a little longer than most executives from tee to green on SOME holes.

Pelican and Heron. Of course I live on Heron so somewhat biased.

I'm a terrible golfer. I love Heron because I think it is so "pretty." I enjoy the scenery so much more than trying to get that little ball in that little hole!!!

I'm with the crowd - Pelican and Heron are also very beautiful!

I'm looking at my LSP Guest ID from a month ago and it says "2 rounds of golf, championship or executive". Why is Pelican not available to LSP guests?

Try Amberwood. Nice, challenging course.
While I agree Pelican is a challenge and Heron is beautiful let's not forget Walnut Grove. I think the elevation changes and the sand traps will give anyone a tough round especially the first time.

I think the person who said that didn't realize that they changed the rules on LSV use of executive courses. My visit last year included executives (except the resident only clubs: Silver Lake, Mira Mesa and De La Vista)
At least that is my understanding.

Depends on the day and whether or not the Golf Genie is with me. Today Truman was terrific! Yesterday the same course could have been horrible.

I don't know why, based on the recommendation of others I called the lifestyle coordinator and requested Pelican for my upcoming lifestyle visit. He put me on hold to call for a tee time then came back and said sorry Pelican is not available for lifestyle visitors how about Heron it is right next to Pelican. I said sure. He put me on hold again and then came back and said your tee time at Heron is...
I guess certain executive courses are off limits perhaps because they are too popular with the full time residents? I don't have a problem with that. I get the "lifestyle preview" regardless of which course I play. They should reserve the most popular or best for the full time residents who are paying the freight so to speak.

could it be that Pelican was scheduled for maintenance or some sort of tournamnet type function for that day?

I was told specifically "Pelican is not available to lifestyle preview guests" by the lifestyle coordinator after he called there for a tee time for me.

We just spent two months in TV would agree that Pelican can be a real challenge. However, our vote goes to Amberwood. It has some challenging holes which give the course a character more like a championship course. There is even a par 5 and you get to see the buffalo.
