Does anyone that uses Quicken archive their files on an annual basis?

If you do, how big a problem is it to go back and look at that data on a frequent/infrequent basis.

I tried archiving my files on a year by year basis but when I wanted to go back and look at some old data it was a real pain in the wazoo. If I remember I had to export the current year to save it and then import the year(s) I wanted. I do not remember if it kept the current year that was there that I wanted to compare the old data to or if it overlaid it.

Right now I have almost 8 years of data "online".

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Z

I have used quicken for many, many years like you. I just have not tried to do what you need to do...Actually I still have my transactions all the way back to (at least) 2000.
Sorry no help here.

When you archive QUICKEN files each year, make sure you put that archive in a directory that has that year's name. Then, if you want to look at that data, all you have to do is go to that years particular directory and open the QIF file. QUICKEN closes the current QIF file that you are looking at so that it can look at the archived one. Both files can not be open at the same time. QUICKEN does not have the multiple windows capability. I use QUICKEN 2006.

I've used Quicken for at least ten years, probably longer. I have archived prior years several times. Never have I had a needed to retrieve any information from an archived file. I ususally keep 2-3 years in the active file, so going back beyond that has never been an issue. Sorry not be be any help.

Thanks. I am thinking that may be the best choice over keeping the entire data base.

Too bad Quicken won't let you pull in an archive as a side file.
