Here in the Villages, we come from all corners of the country. My wife and I personally moved here from Binghamton. (actually suburban Binghamton) In the Villages, there is a group of about 100 people from the Binghamton (Triple Cities) area of upstate New York.

Like all of the others, we were very familiar with the American Civic Association, had friends on the board of directors and attended their annual banquets. It's always gut wrenching when it happens anywhere, but when it happens at a place with which one is so familiar, it has a whole different emotional depth.

Jan,

We too are devastated by the tragedy in Binghamton having lived there for the last 37 years.

These were people who were trying to learn our culture to become contributing citizens of our country. How sad that all these peoples families lives are changed forever because of one madman!

Just another reason to always live life to the fullest and always try to have an attitude of gratitude, noone knows how long we have left on earth.

I live in Albany, NY. Although Binghamton is less than 150 miles away I've only been there a few times. I'm not very familiar with the city. However, since we're so close to Binghamton, it has been dominating the local news since it happened.

While this kind of incident is always tragic, it seems so much worse when we know the places or people involved.

Yes...how very sad. I grew up in Endwell, very close to Binghamton. We currently live in Batavia, in western NY.

How true that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. That is why I'm counting the days until we can move down there.....(820).
