Forbes magazine : 10/2/16
… for tax year 2014, The New York Times paid no taxes and got an income tax refund of $3.5 million even though they had a pre-tax profit of $29.9 million in 2014.
In other words, their post-tax profit was higher than their pre-tax profit.
The explanation in their 2014 annual report is, “The effective tax rate for 2014 was favorably affected by approximately $21.1 million for the reversal of reserves for uncertain tax positions due to the lapse of applicable statutes of limitations.” If you don’t think it took fancy accountants and tax lawyers to make that happen, read the statement again.

As usual passing right over the just and intent of the post to create a distraction.
Ah let's see NYT pays no taxes....what's the problem?
Trumo pays no taxes...BFD
Forget it...we understand there is only so much that can be gleened from the talking points.....limiting the ability to stay on point.
Oh I guess that is the point!
Congratulations. Step up and get your talking points bonus updates.

The NY Times made a profit in the year in question . However they and legitimate Tax Loss Carry Forwards which they applied to their taxes due and enabled them to not pay any income tax in that particular tax year .
The reason this is an issue of note is due to the fact that Trump did exactly the same thing and used some massive Tax Loss Carry Forwards " to eliminate having to pay income taxes for some number of years .
Except the Times cries " Foul " at Trump while availing themselves of this very legitimate accounting and tax computational provision .

Trump filed his taxes legally and is using the tax code as designed.
Hillary had to go back and amend five years worth of fraudulent tax returns.

When did it become against the law to amend your tax returns? Why do people take credit for the taxes prepared by professionals? If you lived in a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright would you take the credit for that?

Hillary spouts about Trump using the tax system to save on his taxes by using his loss. That is interesting and a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Hillary did the exact same thing in last year's tax return. She claimed a loss of $699,540. Since she probably has someone else doing her taxes, I wonder if she even realizes that she is doing the exact same thing as Trump.

You are listening to Breitbart and their ilk again.
Be careful, they are extremists who simply "flirt" with the truth...
"After hammering Donald Trump on the campaign trail for refusing to reveal his tax returns, Hillary Clinton released her latest federal income tax return Friday, showing she and Bill paid roughly a third of their multi-million dollar income to Uncle Sam.
The Clintons pulled in $10.6 million in 2015, much less than the nearly $28 million they made the year before."
"Their tax return showed that they paid $3.24 million in federal income taxes.
That means their effective tax rate -- a measure of their income tax burden -- was 30.6% based on their adjusted gross income. That's on par with their 32% effective rate in 2014."
Hillary Clinton's 2015 tax return shows $10.6 million in income, 31% rate -- and puts pressure on Donald Trump - Aug. 12, 2016 (http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/12/pf/taxes/hillary-clinton-tax-return/)

I have not read Brietbart but I do have a copy of Clinton's 2015 tax return where I got my figure. What they paid is not relevant to the debate. The point made was that they used the same practice as Trump did with his taxes. They used their loss as a deduction, just as the code says you can. Hilary is screaming about Trump and his taxes when she is doing the exact same thing. And believe me, she is just torqued at him because he has more money that her. And if you look at another deduction they claimed, they deducted a million bucks they gave to THEIR charity.
At any rate, Trump is totally legit using a business loss to keep from paying taxes that he is not required to pay.

Please allow what line that specific deduction is made on.
I also have her tax return and cannot find it at all.
Also if you are the poster who said this info was on Fortune..still can't find that either.
But, just supply form and line number and I will find it easily.
And again, I heard nobody say he did anything illegal. Not ebough info.
Point is being made about his blatant hypocrisy based on years of tweets and interviews, and his current tax proposal.
But allow me that info please

I said the information was on the Capital Gains and Losses form Schedule D part II. at the bottom of the page.
What difference does it make?
Are you going to tell me that you do not believe that Americans should not take advantage of counting a loss against you income? Everyone does this unless they are using the standard deductions. Anyone that itemizes uses deductions. Just because Trump had more deductions than the Clintons, and the Clintons had more than me, does that mean no one should use the proper tax rules?
Trump used his losses against his income for determining his return. He did it legally. So did Hillary. And Hillary did use the same procedure of deducting her loss from the income.

What IS MY BUSINESS AND SHOULD BE OF CONCERN FOR YOU IS...
They got 3 pages of a state return.
What it does not show is TO WHOM IS HE INDEBTED. That would be shown and it would reflect PERSONAL debt especially who he owes and how much in foreign countries. He does business with Russia, Iran and Turkey to name a few and has done business with folks in Turkey that support terrorism.
It does not show WHERE HIS INCOME ACTUALLY CAME FROM.
Do you want your President to be in debt in Billions to Russia, as one example. How does he make decisions for our country if he has PERSONAL interest.
His company, and is private. It is not a public corp, such as Romney had for example.
Again, they were sent 3 pages of a state return. Rumors, and they are rumors now, are that Trump sent them.
He does not want you to know who, how much he owes in far eastern countries for one.
The rate he pays could be some if an issue, but no big deal. We need to know our President is not in debt, or in business with a country that he may need to deal with. He will choose his fortune before our country I assure you.

I HAVE NIT HEARD ONE SINGLE OERSON AT ANYTIME ANYWHERE CRITICIZE HIM FOR TAKING IT, NOR SAY IT WAS ILLEGAL.
I hope that is clear.
Problem is it does not square at all with his criticisms of others, like the President and others.
It does not square with his tax proposals.
This is a man who complained about people not paying any tax...CLINTONS PAID TAX.
This is a man who has been very critical of others doing what he does.
Again, get it straight in your head.....nobody said he broke the law...nobody said he should not use opportunities.....but they do question his sheer brutal hypocrisy.
As I said..him sending them is a rumor, but makes sense to me. While political mileage as with all candidates can be made, if he can somehow have people forget about his taxes...AND ALL THE TIMES HAS IS 3 PAGES OF A STATE RETURN.
What I want and his federal tax report, as submitted by the CLINTONS would show, is WHO IS HE DOING BUSINESS WITH OF A FOREIGN COUNTRY. HOW MUCH AND TO WHOM DOES HE OWE MONEY..
I would always assume he would pay the lowest rate possible.....I, and others do not want a President INDEBTED to a foreign country.
You sound reasonable and certainly can see that.
This will become bigger because his company is PRIVATE. H cannot set up a blind trust and if taken over by his kids, that HUGE conflict of interest is there.

I just got to thinking how the average working Joe might feel about the Trump tax news.
Imagine, working your butt off, paying your share and then hearing all this...he did nothing illegal, but....
Anyway, the group I was interested in.....
"Donald Trump may not have paid federal income taxes for 20 years, but the undocumented immigrants he rails against certainly have, according to the head of a Latino civic engagement organization.
Maria Teresa Kumar, CEO and president of Voto Latino, said on NBC’s Meet the Press that "no one is surprised" by the New York Times report on Trump’s personal finances and pointed out Trump’s "hypocrisy."
"He keeps talking about undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants pay $12 billion of taxes every single year. They pay their taxes. They have skin in the game. He is not contributing to a system that he says he's going to go in and fix," Kumar said."

Nether was trump when he filed his tax returns. The problem I see it's ok for democrats to dupe the system. But the hold everybody else to different standard. Taxes has nothing to do with nominees. Shouldn't even be issue. This is way to get around issues with fog, so don't have to talk about real issues. Like 20 trillion in debt and racial tensions that have 900% plus increase the last 7 3/4 years.

I wonder how many million bucks Trump has paid in state income taxes, foreign taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, employee payroll taxes, etc. Considering the thousands he employs, I bet he pays millions in some form of taxes, perhaps billions. And Hillary has created NO jobs and has produced no products. She has not contributed to the economy in any way but she has contributed to air pollution when she speaks at Wall St businesses where she gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. I wonder what they expect in return for that scam.

NO, He is only concerned that Trump might have borrowed money from Russia...It seems he could care less about the foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation and what Hillary might owe them in return.
"A group called “Friends of Saudi Arabia,” co-founded “by a Saudi Prince,” gave an additional amount between $1 million and $5 million. The Clinton Foundation says that between $1 million and $5 million was also donated by “the State of Qatar,” the United Arab Emirates, and the government of Brunei. “The State of Kuwait” has donated between $5 million and $10 million."
"Is Clinton loyalty really so strong that people are going to argue with a straight face that the reason the Saudi, Qatari, Kuwaiti and Emirates regimes donated large amounts of money to the Clinton Foundation is because those regimes simply want to help the foundation achieve its magnanimous goals?"
Yeah, those towel heads are known to treat their woman, children, and gays terriffic!

"Donald Trump on Monday night explained away the steep losses documented on what appear to be pages of his tax returns released by the New York Times over the weekend — which may have helped him avoid taxes for two decades — as evidence of his "talent," "skill, dedication and sheer grit."
But tax experts, and the real-estate mogul's documented experience, suggest otherwise.
The nearly $916 million in losses listed on the pages from a trio of 1995 filings published by the New York Times — which Trump referred to at a campaign stop in Colorado as "alleged," but didn't deny their legitimacy in an initial statement on the documents — marks his "net operating loss" or NOL, the sum of the losses Trump's business entities, including limited liability companies, corporations and other partnerships. NOL can be used to cancel out an individual's income tax for a given year, and can be carried over from year to year.
"As a businessman and real estate developer, I have legally used the tax laws to my benefit, and to the benefit of my company, my investors, and my employees. I mean, honestly, I have brilliantly, I have brilliantly used those laws," he said in Pueblo, Colo. on Monday night.
Tax experts, however, say his potential use of the NOL loophole doesn't indicate "genius" — it's what any business owner would do.
"There's nothing morally wrong or unethical" about using NOL to offset taxes, said Dan Shaviro, a tax law professor at NYU who worked on tax reform as a Congressional aide. "But you don't have to be a genius — you could be a chimp."
While "it's perfectly normal" to use NOLs to offset a business owner's taxes, Shaviro said, a loss of more than $900 million is "unusual."
"It doesn't speak well of his business sense that he had that type of [net operating loss]. It makes him look like a fool or an incompetent in his planning," he said.

Probably the same folks that attempted to convince America that Hillary has committed no crimes and that Benghazi was caused by a home video. I'm sure they believe that Bill Clinton is still a virgin also.
But, if you are a liberal I am sure you will believe it.

Amazing response to a post on tax.
Noticed that your words, awful close to exact words, are pretty much the posted response to anything negative on Trump.
You guys must have had a meeting to insure the depth and breath of your message is always the same thing.
Got this exact response on gun control, economic policy, tax proposals.....must be the entire core of the message.

And your point? Tell you what, you post something that has some sort of meaning toward this farce of an election and I will get back to you. Trump submitted legal tax paperwork. Trump is wealthy. Trump does not talk like other phony politicians. Trump exaggerates. Politicians don't? Hillary doesn't when she says Trump is going to do this to you and he believe this or that? Get over it.
Until Hillary goes to jail for her crimes, I will continue to dump on her and defend Trump on trivial issues that mean nothing. If you are so dense that you are conned by another Clinton then don't cry to me about the way I submit my comments. No one is forcing you to reply to my comment. But, on the other hand get ready for the big storm and keep your head down. It may get rough in the next few days. I'm talking about the weather, not politics. So, have a great day.
