and it's four commissioners for standing up and being counted. Recently ONE Lady Lake resident (Bill C.), an atheist, requested the use of religious prayer at the beginning of their meetings be eliminated. The subject was out voted. One of the commissioners said " I think Bill should just back off...our philosophy is based on GOD and country, if someone doesn't like it they can just go along and get along".....:eclipsee_gold_cup::mademyday:
That is what we need more of these days. I am all for everybody and anybody having their own opinion as long as they don't expect the majority to roll over (as we do all to often too not offend!!!) to accommodate every wisp of what ever blows up an individuals shorts.
Mayor Jim Richards and your commissioners...hats off to you for upholding our values!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much.

As a prospective home buyer I am disappointed to read what seems to me to be a sign of disrespect by mentioning name of another resident. Furthermore, I assume the person writing the entry to be one who practices a religion and yet the views shared appear to be intolerant.

I assume the person's name is part of the public record since it was a public hearing?
I would disagree with BTK when he assumes that the atheist has no values (or that the others' values are more important). His values are just different and don't include a God. But the majority does have the absolute right to vote him down if they wish (and they did).

hopefully you don't make such an important decision because of of one persons posting in a forum reflecting what you THINK I said. Not one word of intolerance. I both quoted and paraphrased this mornings newspaper that does in fact list the person's name. You now know or think you know as much about Bill C. as you do me, BTK. I merely expressed my complete and total agreement with the community leaders conclusions.
It is what I love about the USA, we can still say what we believe, like or dislike whether others like it or not. I am also against not saying anything for fear of offending somebody. And I most certainly do not subscribe to the ever popular political correctness which allows saying and doing that which is not right or correct.
Yup, gimme that old time religion, any religion and the core values our country was formulated upon and became great. And all the others can believe anything they want...I really don't care...REALLY. I get bent when they try to bully what they believe and use it to do away with that which over 90% of not only believe, but want. Yes majority rules, but in recent years with the avalanche of advocacy of special interest groups and politicians trying to please everybody and the silent majority doing nothing about it.....one would conclude the opposite.
So when I see not only the public servants standing and being counted for the majority...I say hooray....and for those in the minority as the commissioner said, if you don't like it just git along....and for those who mis-interpret what I wrote...it (only half a word!) happens.

I have an issue with the remark "if you don't like it just git along"
Could also be applied to those unhappy republican's after the recent elections.

if you don't like it just git along....is nothing more than a native Floridian inviting those in the minority to exercise their choice of continuing with past practice, because we do intend to continue...or don't!!!
I suppose their could be a more polite way to tell the same thing. It won't change the intended message however....motion denied!!

Why is it that atheists always want to get in the face of believers. If you don't want to believe in God, don't. Leave me alone If I do. Since the belief in God, or not is an intangible, It is of no threat to you. Get out of my face and I'll stay out of yours! (Now comes the yada yada yada about separation of church and state.) Forget it.

I will note that the atheists are not the ones going from door to door in my neighborhood with magazines and salvation "how-to" pamphlets.

I'd have to agree with Kayaker - In my groups at work I NEVER hear anyone trying to talk about their non-belief in a GOD. Unless they are asked of course. However, quite often I will hear conversations about people's religious beliefs (of all faiths I might add).
In fact a person could argue the opposite of what Yoda said. It's not just the sects that come door to door, it's the playing of God bless America in the 7th inning of a baseball game etc that also pushes certain religious beliefs over others. Don't get me wrong - I love the song but let's at least admit that one could argue why do we play that and not some other religious sect's anthem from time to time.
I am not a Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or Hindu or Buddhist or Atheist or anything. I simply do not know. So by definition (although i hate labels) I'd be an Agnostic. But I respect anyone's right to their own beliefs and none of that bothers me. Atheists have an agenda the same as Christians et. al. do and they have the right to push that belief.

I read about it in the Daily Sun.
